UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk, Kinderdijk

Almost everyone associates the Netherlands with windmills--at UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk, you can see a channel lined with 19 of them dating back to 1740. Used for the last time during the World War II, these structures used hydraulics to provide drainage, protecting the area from floods. Although advanced technology is replacing windmills today, you can still admire the beauty of theses majestic structures. The place is beautiful, photogenic. Gives an excellent insight into the fight with water. Take a walk or go next free ticket grants you the right to watch a movie and go to the two mills, but is it worth it? If there are no other mills plans (e.g. in Leiden), visit worth it.

A unique experience! Buy a boat ticket, go all the way to the end on foot and than come back with the boat from the last stop! Check out the souvenir shop too!

Beautiful Windmills all around you. There is proper bicycle road all along the area. Do not miss this place. World Heritage.

Very impressive & Winter time isn't crowded so you get to experience the windmills more satisfactory. Most employees speak English. For the price of €7.50 per person you get to go inside 2 windmills and see a short film at the visitor center. Parking at site is 5€ but space is limited. Admission is free to walk to the windmills or you can take a ferry(€5each) to the 2 windmills of admission, but walking is much more recommendable. Hope this helps.

Great day trip outside of the city with an amazing amount of windmills (most still working)! Highly recommended to take a bike from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk and then you can return direct to Rotterdam by a direct ferry.

Great place to visit. Lovely to stroll around and take pictures. Our boys loved exploring the windmills and our eldest still talks about everything he learnt while visiting.
