(4.7/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Almost everyone associates the Netherlands with windmills--at The Mill Network at Kinderdijk-Elshout, you can see a channel lined with 19 of them dating back to 1740. Used for the last time during the World War II, these structures used hydraulics to provide drainage, protecting the area from floods. Although advanced technology is replacing windmills today, you can still admire the beauty of theses majestic structures. • These are the last few windmills in the Netherlands. Walking the path to the exhibit was scenically beautiful and the technical aspects of water control amazingly instructive. Pick a sunny day.
