Kasteel de Haar, Haarzuilens

4.4
Roam the formal gardens of Kasteel de Haar, and then head inside to admire the richly decorated and wood interior. Located just outside Utrecht, this medieval fortress is complete with ramparts, gates, drawbridges, and large gardens. It was fully restored and rebuilt in 1892 after a large donation from the Rothschild family, but previous structures on the land date back to 1391. The inhabitants, the Van Zuylen van Nyevelt family, passed ownership over to the foundation, but still reserve the right to spend one month at the castle per year. View the many pieces on display around the castle, all of which come from the Rothschild collection. Guided tours are available to see the kitchens, greeting rooms, and dining rooms, but are usually only conducted in Dutch. • It is a little bit expensive for what it offers, not really for children. The scenery and landscape is very nice though, lots of gardens and flowers to look at but at least my children were a little b...  more »
  • Huge boring for people who are not of historical things. Although you actually quickly was in, we were also still in the garden on the hike and eating we were there a total of approximately in 4u ready. It is helpful and there are a few zitplaatsjes in each room happy. Garden is like a Park. It is nice, but come on ... Restaurant did not have much choice and was quite pricey for what there was + lasted long before we eat were given and there were quite a lot of insects anywhere.. In short: you are soon ready in the Castle, but as the rest also walking please..

  • Castle is near Utrecht, is closed to the public, and input can be only Castle or the park that there is to the his around. The parking is paid, they give you a currency to buy the entrance which is the one to put out for the lifting of the barrier. It is pretty big inside, rooms are furnished, although sometimes in the decoration it has too modern elements.

  • Amazing Castle in the Netherlands. Even it has a lot of restored walls and figures you are able to feel that medieval sensation in the air. The gardens are pretty cool and taking a walk among them it's relaxing. The 16 € entrance are worthy at the end. Don't be afraid to dance in the dance hall.
  • Beautiful castle in Utrecht, with very nice surroundings. The castle has been recently renovated over the last years; the rooms are completely different from each other. Take the time to see the park as well. We will definitely go back there, since we've not seen it in one go. Try to go on weekdays, because the weekends are relatively full.
  • The castle is really nice and the surrounding area. The guides that are inside the different rooms of the castle are really helpful and tell you interesting stories. Unfortunately I went there in a bad timing since there were works outside to prepare a bigger event for the following week. All the tends and machines did not allow me to explore the gardens. I think this should have been informed before and taken in consideration in the price of the tickets.
  • A picturesque fairy tale castle in lovely surroundings. It cost €16 to visit the castle which seemed very expensive so we paid €5 each to visit the gardens and grounds. I think €10 would have been a more reasonable price for visiting the castle. The cafe was good and both the chocolate fudge cake and cheesecake delicious. The staff were very helpful and thankfully spoke good English.
  • Beautiful place, inside and out. The palace itself seemed very lively and everything was in a good order. We had a tour of the whole castle and every room was different than other, filled with art and old furniture. Gardens were beautiful too.
