Roam the formal gardens of Kasteel de Haar, and then head inside to admire the richly decorated and wood interior. Located just outside Utrecht, this medieval fortress is complete with ramparts, gates, drawbridges, and large gardens. It was fully restored and rebuilt in 1892 after a large donation from the Rothschild family, but previous structures on the land date back to 1391. The inhabitants, the Van Zuylen van Nyevelt family, passed ownership over to the foundation, but still reserve the right to spend one month at the castle per year. View the many pieces on display around the castle, all of which come from the Rothschild collection. Guided tours are available to see the kitchens, greeting rooms, and dining rooms, but are usually only conducted in Dutch. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Haarzuilens holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Kasteel de Haar and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Leuke bediening en goed eten en drinken. De rondleiding in het kasteel viel wel mee. Hadden we meer van verwacht. Maar verder was alles goed georganiseerd. Lekkere bbq. more »Nice staff, good food and drinks. The guided visit to the Castle decoration We had expected more. But otherwise, everything was well organized. Some tasty bbq.
A group of 150 people visited Koetshuis de Haar as a light lunch stop on The Regis Classic Tour. Tasty soup and rolls were served in the Castle's Coach House by pleasant friendly staff. more »

Una v... more »I visited the Castle De Haar during vacation in Eindhoven last March. The castle is easily accessible by public transport connected and super on time in racing. Once the last stop then walk for about 15 minutes or cycling. The Castle deserves to be admired in all its glory, although it was restored and partially rebuilt in the 19 century is certainly one of the most beautiful castles in Europe, not to mention the gardens that surround this luxurious and imposing fortress. If you as a couple do not forget a stroll inside the maze, you feel like stepping into the past or live for an instant feeling of not ever come out. Any season is good for a leisurely stroll through the canals, ponds, bridges and romantic scenarios. A blast!
A must go place if you have few days to spent in the neighborhood of Utrecht, with full family. Travel Tips: 1. If you are with public transport, get down at Vleuten station and get the bus 111, which drops you very close to the castle's main entrance. 2. Pack your food for the day of visit. 3. Best time to visit - I think summer in general. They also have some special events around October. 4. Museum pass is acceptable here and that's the cheapest and best way to experience this gorgeous castle. 4. I gave 4 star just for the reason that they had (at least when I visited last year) Live Guide only in Dutch or else it would have been much more fun.
This castle is well worth a detour, better yet be added as a destination on itself. The gardens are beautiful with the castle given an impressive backdrop. To see the interior you need to buy separate tickets but it's well worth it. Try to book a tour with a guide to show you the special places and hear some nice stories.

Interesting place. A very modern castle for Dutch rich folks. Now a tourist site. I thought it was worth it.
A beautiful castle from the 12th century, which was rebuilt several times. Last renovation was made in the end of the 19th century. There is a guided tour there. Adult = 16€ Child = 10.50€ Parking = 4€
