(4.7/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Grote Markt, Haarlem's main square, is lined with famous buildings, as well as bars and restaurants. City hall, Vleeshal, Hoofdwacht, and Grote Kerk all border the square. See Hoofdwacht, which was built in the 13th century and is generally regarded as the oldest building in Haarlem. If you're able to visit on a weekend, enjoy the busy market that takes over with vendors selling a range of goods. • Haarlem is a gem that we preferred visit sacrificing in Utrecht or Rotterdam. Very close to Amsterdam is only 15 minutes away by train. Exit the station and the street that you will find yourself in front will take you directly to the Grote Markt. This square is the heart of the city. I have been there at Christmas and definitely between decorations and Christmas trees everything takes on a different look. But apart from that for sure see you is of great impact. You will feel transported back in time. In the square you can admire the Church of Saint Bavo Cathedral (the largest church in the Netherlands), the Town Hall, the old meat market, Museum de Hallen. The surrounding streets are full of cafes, bars and restaurants. By the way don't miss about 5 minutes from Jopenkerk Brewery located in an old church, where you can taste of craft beers. I've personally visited Haarlem in one day and it was enough. Then depends on the tastes. For those seeking peace is the ideal town to stay.
