Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem

(4.5/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. Our Haarlem trip builder makes visiting Frans Hals Museum and other Haarlem attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • This deceptively large museum is must for art lovers, or even those that share a love of history. Beautiful exhibits in tremendous surroundings.  more »
  • After extensive use of the Museumkaart and visit the many museums in Amsterdam and surroundings we would sort the Frans Hals Museum as one of the most beautiful. Outside impress as the rooms inside the building. In addition to the very interesting paintings are also objects from the golden age of the Netherlands (ca 1600 to 1700) as about Haarlem silver goods, to visit China and many furnishings. Interesting works with high is also taking place currently (April 2017) scientific analysis of the neck. There is free parking on both sides of the Schalkwijkerstraat River among at least seven. Since you can then comfortably a few hundred meters on the walk up to long Brug along House boats can the River Cross and Gasthuisvest down to the Museum, there.

  • A particularly pleasant museum with beautiful paintings. Especially the short explanation at the paintings I suggested. So go the pieces just a little more for me living. Very worth it if you're in the beautiful Haarlem

  • Great must see place for the lovers of the old Dutch art and masters. Nicely situated in an old and equally typical area of the beautiful city of Haarlem. You won't regret it.
  • Really nice place. Bigger than I expected. Some top class exhibits. Well worth a visit
  • A great museum in great surroundings. Don't let the name fool you, there are loads of other artists on display here. The building itself is magical and the art is simply stunning.
  • A delightful little museum in pretty Haarlem. This made a nice quick trip out of Amsterdam to try to see a bit more of the Netherlands. Very enjoyable indeed with some interesting art.
  • Nice gallery, it was very quite even at peak times. Garden in courtyard was very pretty and peaceful, cafe is good too. Free audio guide was very informative.
