Art Museum Museum
Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. Our Haarlem trip builder makes visiting Frans Hals Museum and other Haarlem attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • This museum is so much more than just one artist, Frans Hals. It's a slice of life in history, but then it displays an awareness of the irony of contemporary art. Don't miss it.  more »

  • Very interesting museum combining works of Hals and contemporaries in historical context, including the evolving far east Chinese, all presented within a classic venue. Includes not only paintings but also furniture, silver, glass and porcelain, as well as a whimsical exhibit if modern era art humor. Easy to review comfortably in 1 1/2 hours.
  • Super cool museum with beautiful portraits! Not maybe the best museum if you're with kids but they do have a section with dress up stuff. Was able to see a painting be analyzed for authenticity to being a Frans Hals, which was also neat to read about.
  • High quality pictures. Worse visit to lovers of art from 16th 17th centuries
  • Excellent museum, great combination of eras of art from artists based in Amsterdam or about the city. Wonderful experience, very good audio guide. The Civic Guard room is amazing and the museum is not too crowded so you can take your time and appreciate the unique art around you.
  • If you're in Amsterdam for longer than two days - get a train to Harlem (15 minutes ride) and visit this museum. Nice selection of Halses. Museum is bigger than it appears to be (quite the opposite to Rijksmuseum). And Harlem is a lovely place to visit.
