Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem

4.4
#1 of 11 in Museums in Haarlem
Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. • Exhibition about humor in the 17th century painting. Beautiful paintings, with concise explanation. Thanks to this explanation, you can see details on the paintings where Yes else would look over it.

  • The exhibition (5 euro surcharge on entrance) was very nice and. The accompanying texts were fun and gave a good picture of humor in art, especially of the 17th century. I wondering what the English texts around the paintings on the wall mean ... something for the next exhibition?..

  • We could see only the ground floor, there was an event on the first floor. You miss a large part of the collection, but this is not reported in advance and the entrance fee is the same. Better another museum visits, if you insists;-)

  • Went to here with my school, after I walked for like 15 minutes in the museum I already came to the end. It is way too small for a real good museum
  • Great exhibit on the art of laughter. Ends soon so see it while you can!
  • Such a fascinating museum. My visit was considerably enhanced by the current show The Global Table. I only realised that silver goblets and other items started to appear in Dutch paintings after early colonialisation had begun. Fascinating!
  • Beautiful museum and definitely worth the effort to visit. Stunning paintings!
  • Nice collections which make you happy. Very decent and friendly staff
