Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem

(4.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. Our Haarlem trip builder makes visiting Frans Hals Museum and other Haarlem attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • very nice museum demonstrating the works of Frans Hals. Must see when spending a day in the city of Haarlem. Nicely located in one of the oldest hospitals in The Netherlands.
  • Passing through Haarlem, we have visited the Museum and enjoyed temporary Expo of the works of the Museum of Budapest. The works, place and history are very interesting. Audio guide in french. The paintings are in excellent condition and very reprentative of the time. A little game of research works for children and the visit went very well. Allow 1 to 2 hours. The Museum is in the city center. To do.

  • Beautiful building, nice museum. We went for the Dutch masters, which were about from Budapest. But the "regular" collection is also very worthwhile.

  • Great must see place for the lovers of the old Dutch art and masters. Nicely situated in an old and equally typical area of the beautiful city of Haarlem. You won't regret it.
  • Really nice place. Bigger than I expected. Some top class exhibits. Well worth a visit
  • A great museum in great surroundings. Don't let the name fool you, there are loads of other artists on display here. The building itself is magical and the art is simply stunning.
  • A delightful little museum in pretty Haarlem. This made a nice quick trip out of Amsterdam to try to see a bit more of the Netherlands. Very enjoyable indeed with some interesting art.
  • Nice gallery, it was very quite even at peak times. Garden in courtyard was very pretty and peaceful, cafe is good too. Free audio guide was very informative.
