Groninger Museum, Groningen

(4.2/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Housed in three pavilions, each designed by a different architect, Groninger Museum displays modern and contemporary art. The museum opened in 1874, but the current construction wasn't completed until 1994. Take in the distinct pavilions, a silver cylindrical building, a yellow tower, and a blue deconstructivist space. These structures merge seamlessly into one museum located on the canal. Explore the museum to see local, national, and international works of art. If you'd like a more in-depth understanding of the exhibits, choose from one of the several tours offered. Put Groninger Museum and other Groningen attractions into our Groningen trip builder, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • What we have again enjoyed this museum. Beautiful collections. Enjoyed the pictures of Rodin, but no less of the many other exhibitions. More than worth it.

  • We have visited this museum i.v.m. the exposition of Rodin. The route was well marked and you still got a audio set m.b.v. more info. The other exhibitors were also fun and interesting.

  • Currently a very beautiful exhibition on Rodin. There was a booklet available to read all about the work but you can also be a free audio guide (actually a type of small tablet that lets you in addition to the explanation of the work of art, still could find additional info in the form of movies or photos or music fragments) use to get you through the exhibition. By using the audio guide you got a lot of information and you also looked at the works of art in a different way. Also the exhibition by Maarten Baas was well worth it! We are not avid museum visitors here yet but we were pleasantly surprised.
