  • Heat Horn built a hut on piles, ground has grown hardened people living with feathered reeds wetland reeds cover the roof, and found plenty of goat horns or bones in the process, digging turf around it dried burning it over the winter, I came home and I think. Peat demand increases it becomes to the sustenance of life, but be creative and able to go only by boat to reach the village only, and other isolated natural village. However, you may have seen the landscape of the Netherlands in the typical water. This museum to Museum houses earlier in person once before here presents the life, of harvesting of reeds in winter rubbish was to protect the nature reserve, was being shown on the monitor is making to an old fashioned every year in winter immense Reed cutting. I think that says to destroy the coexistence with nature, built by humans for a long time guarding your money and time and effort. If you think it smells good in the Museum had Vacher bake grandma who, was eating. Day unfortunately rainy day market on Vacher 10 2.5 euro grandma who was. Is pretty much broken out and eat in the hotel have good thin-crust Vacher.

  • My opinion:this humble museum is recommended for those have not yet visited the museum like Open Air Museum of Zuiderzee Museum.  more »
  • The museum is completely refurbished whereby not all was ready. It gives a nice example of how both the richer as the poor people lived in the former peat bogs. Because it was silent we got additional explanation of the voluntary attendants. A fun addition to a boat trip through giethoorn.

  • "Venice" in the Netherlands? Not quite, but it has its own appeal. I highly recommend visiting once, preferably when the weather is nice and the flowers are all in bloom. A boat ride is a nice way of seeing the area, and you have the choice of either riding in a tour boat or renting one privately. It was quite a long trip for us but it was very much worth it.
  • The staff is nice. There is a bathroom for 50 cents. My friend and I went here and learned about Dutch life in the 1900s while it was raining in Giethoorn.
  • Interesting museum with interactive games for children. The environment, the small pintoresque village is the most important. Really a must visit. We enjoyed the visit and shoot hundreds of pics.
  • Very interesting well presented and gives an overview of the history of the farm and village. A lot of detail in each exhibit.
  • Giethoorn itself is a really beautiful place. However there are obvious signs that it is becoming a bit of a tourist trap. A lot of Chinese signs and tourists. Still, the scenery is excellent. Be careful of where you walk because people do live here and it is not nice to trespass their property. Option to drive a whisper boat is also possible and can enhance the entire experience. Rents start from 15 euros per hour and the boat can take quite a few people.
