It was interesting exploring the fort and the aquarium. However, it isn't a place that is value for your money. Something to do in Den Helder if you have a free day but wouldn't recommend heading ther... more »

For him was Den Helder the Gibraltar of the North, and he read the Fort Kijkduin build. Guided tours will be offered in which tells you everything to this Fort but you can go without a guide through the Saale and and all exhibits, you will find information in Dutch, English and German. It's so worth visiting on a not so sunny day! Because in some basins, marine wildlife are belongs to the Museum still Sea Aquarium where sea creatures can be seen not only to the access close. Worth seeing is the tunnel where visitors through an aquarium and the fish swim right, left and above the heads of visitors. It will be the only times where where the North Sea shark in the eye can be seen.
Interesting museum. you learn a lot of the area and the fort during several wars. Also the aquarium with fish of the nortsea is nice. It is a pity that there is not so much interactive things to do fo... more »
Fort Kijkduin is a great museum which shows its importance of defence in the past. It tells you Dutch history. This is one great museum which one should never miss. Though it is in the west of Den Helder, it will take 30 min. to walk from train station Den Helder. I advise you to walk here because you can enjoy watching horses, sheep and lighthouse on the way. You can also come by bus 851 which will leave train station once per hour. The museum has weapons, military stuff, military model tanks and planes, documentary film, aquarium, etc to show you. The sole toilet is right in front of the cashier. After you buy the entry ticket, turn your head back and you will see it. All the other toilets in the museum are locked.
A nice fort. A lot to see. The only problem with this museum is that everything explained is only in dutch language . they should make that much effort for tourists to translate also to english (at least, if not also to german) that was a bit disappointing.

Don't really like war museums but this one is okay. Adding an aquarium is a nice touch.
Beautifully located fortress from the 19th century commisioned by Napoleon. Here is also an Aquarium with fishes from the Northsea.
Very nice view from this place, good pokemon place and the museum is very nice to go into as well. A little marine aquatic life view in short, all this in an old WWII fort.
