Delft Pottery De Delftse Pauw, Delft

Paint a tile or clog at Delft Pottery De Delftse Pauw, offering free guided tours for visitors interested in learning more about a major local art form. This family-owned studio with a shop remains best known for its traditional hand-painted Delftware (a.k.a Delft pottery, recognized by its blue-and-white designs). The multilingual guides can show you every step of the process, but if you prefer a hands-on approach to learning, join a workshop and try painting a tile on your own. Hand-painted items must be glazed and fired, so you'll be able to pick up your own creation in a week--or have it shipped to your home address. • We showed up on a Sunday morning just to look around and we're treated to a tour of the facility. Nico, the head of the entire operation, personally walked us through the entire process of creating pottery and patiently answered all of our many questions, giving us a very good education on Delftware. At the end of the tour we were able to go into the shop and purchase a few items that were beautifully done. One highlight is that all of the pieces produced here are hand-painted and the shop is family owned and not part of some corporate beast. It really showed in how we were welcomed. If you want to purchase Delftware or are in Delft looking for something to see, this is the place to go. I can't recommend it highly enough. Just awesome!
  • The personal tour is lovely and their engagement with children is remarkable. The pieces in the shop are beautiful and you'll have a hard time choosing a bauble to take home. Have your purchase shipped instead of risking it being broken in your suitcase.
  • Long walk, even if you take the tram! The cheapest items to buy were €40 ish for a generic looking mug or Christmas ornament. If you want a cool thing, it'll cost you €200-400. But that's the price you pay for hand made, of course. My 65 year old mother wanted to go, so it was worth the trek to make her happy. But otherwise you already know the drill from going to one of those do-it-yourself pottery painting places. :)
  • Enjoyed the presentation and opportunity to buy some of this beautiful pottery art.
  • Nice place to visit. Worth it to walk from the city center, because also the surrounding neighborhood is nice. Short, but very clear tour through factory.
