Public Library of Amsterdam, Amsterdam

4.6
The largest of the capital city's public libraries, Public Library of Amsterdam offers several floors of books and exhibits to explore. Though it may seem mundane to visit a library, the beautiful architecture, cafe, and other features available to the public make this one particularly noteworthy. View the two radio stations housed in this building, as well as the library's youth department, which boasts the famous Muizenhuis, a handmade dollhouse for mice built by artist Karina Schaapman. The impressive building was designed by Jo Coenen and houses nearly 2 million books. It frequently features visiting exhibits on art, literature, or design. • With granddaughter of 8 years, that crazy about books is, though, to the library. She was under the impression of the Department with children's books and the mouse House was totally top. In Hengelo, where she comes from the library is slightly smaller. Too bad the top two floors were not available. Thereby no top views.

  • Go up to the top floor for great views and a cafe with a balcony, lift access or escalator, right next to the central station  more »
  • Admission is free and it is worthwhile to see the ease of access that there are books and the way in which they are presented. Also the facilities in terms of access to computers, etc. From the roof terrace, there is a very good view of the area.

  • Impressive library full of books if you can read dutch (which I can't), but the view from the top was pretty good and the cafe there has some really good food
  • Fantastic public library in an inspiring modern space close to the Centraal Station. They have what looks to be an good selection of books, journals, and magazines. There is a cafe/cafeteria and a theatre on an upper level, with views of the city from the terrace. This is an excellent constructive use of public funds which adds to the cultural scene in Amsterdam.
  • Fantastic and huge library with 8 floors of books, music, audio-books, a floor for restaurant and a terrace on top. No free-wifi. There is a Vapiano close to the entrance, with views to the inside of the library. Love the architecture. 10 minutes walking from Centraal Station
  • There use to be a restaurant on the top floor with a large variety of tasty food dishes at an affordable price. It was replaced by a different restaurant managed by the library itself, they carry a small, insipid and overpriced selection of food dishes. No restroom available on the top floor. Not a good place to study either since it is pretty noisy most of the time.
  • Free enterance, such a modern library. To borrow a book you have to become a member. Becoming a member is free for people aged under 18. The location is very nice, the view is pretty.
