Noorderkerk, Amsterdam

3.6
While on a sightseeing tour of Amsterdam, make sure to stop by Noorderkerk, the city's gem of Protestant architecture. The 17th-century church was designed by the famous architect and sculptor Hendrick de Keyser, who was father of the style known as Amsterdam Renaissance. With its octagonal base, the outer shape in the form of a Greek cross, and unique interior decorations, the church features a design that makes it unlike any other. The church's excellent acoustics make it a frequent concert venue. The full schedule of upcoming performances is available online. Every Sunday, the square in front of the church hosts a farmer's market where you can find an array of homegrown, organic food products. • Located in a charming little neighborhood. Not much tourists in this area. However, it was closed when we visited so we were only able to see it from outside. Its material is very true to classic Dutch engineering and somehow looks asymmetrical.
  • Pop into winkel 43 for pie
  • nothing special but nice to see

  • Loved this church and its neighborhood !
