  • It's called square Leidseplein and the Max Euwe Centrum is a building in commemoration and memory to the chess player Max Euwe. It has a Museum, library and other chess-related activities such as lectures, seminars etc. Next there is the famous giant chess, it is worth taking a picture because it's still a tourist attraction. The square is also located the Hard Rock Cafe.

  • Even this small square, near Vogelpark has to give something in your passage from Amsterdam. With many wonderful shops all around and a big chess game for big players.

  • A square like so many at the Lee of surrounding buildings on one side has a giant chessboard where the locals but not only compete in passionate games. Surrounded by souvenir shops and restaurants as well as the famous hard rock Café. It's basically access to town and shopping streets.

  • Loved this place! Being a great fan of chess, I spent I guess nearly 2 hours watching people playing. There were always bunch of people stopping by to enjoy the matches.
  • Great food & drinks ,nice open space & good location . The only issue I have is one of the employees who I've only seen twice totally snarked at me both times with this sort of anything but welcoming or friendly attitude; sort of with the feel of saying "what the f*ck do you need" Needless to say maybe both times she was on a bad moment like we all have sometimes . although I suspect that since my appearance isn't beautiful like all the other plastic people around that I bring down the space with my presence and that's why she may be a bit more short with me and sort of spits out a vibe of hey you don't belong here. So in summery ,your likely to find a moderately priced half way decent meal or drink hear but you'll be lucky to find a smile and a warm welcoming spirit.
  • Lots of cafés and you can play check.
  • Beautiful "piazzetta" where you can eat cheap, read and stay in peace located in a beautiful area.

  • A square, especially when the weather is nice! On the square are many catering establishments and there is also for those who love a great game of chess. If you are in Amsterdam you must be sure to go here!
