Magere Brug, Amsterdam

Categories: Bridges, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
One of the most iconic drawbridges in a city of waterways, Magere Brug stretches over the Amstel River to help connect the city. Though the present structure wasn't built until 1934, its white wooden design replicates the historical bridge that proceeded it. Enjoy a stroll over the river and soak up the city center's bustling atmosphere. Use of the bridge is limited to pedestrians and cyclists; it opens several times a day to allow boats through along the river. • One of the most representative and beautiful Amsterdam, bridges is very large and if you can you should see both day and night.

  • In the southern part of the State Hermitage Museum. Erection in 1691 and was rebuilt thereafter. Looks pretty old, but interesting is its unique shape.

  • Lost at other spots around, not knowing what is the most famous place, came here by chance. Big bridge over the Amstel River wide open is like only some of them. You could watch was looked at for a while, but unfortunately.

  • gezellige kroeg, goede uitsmijter, altijd plek
  • Great spot to hang outside in the sun and cute setting indoors too - friendly staff, great snack food and meals... Easily becomes your "local" if you live in the area!
  • A cozy cafe with a great little terrace overviewing the Magere Brugg, one of the most known sights in Amsterdam. This bar has an interesting function: If you get there in early evening, it will most likely be packed. But if you get there around 8PM, it will be almost empty. It will then fill up again once the performances in the nearby theatre, Carre, are over, mostly around 10PM. It's mostly locals coming here, and all of them are really nice!
  • lovely terrace! Good place to grab a bite as well if you are in for a café-style dinner.
  • Great spot to enjoy a beer with a view on the Amstel
