Magere Brug, Amsterdam

3.9
One of the most iconic drawbridges in a city of waterways, Magere Brug stretches over the Amstel River to help connect the city. Though the present structure wasn't built until 1934, its white wooden design replicates the historical bridge that proceeded it. Enjoy a stroll over the river and soak up the city center's bustling atmosphere. Use of the bridge is limited to pedestrians and cyclists; it opens several times a day to allow boats through along the river. Planning Amsterdam trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

Despite the legends behind the origin of the name and characteristics about its construction, there is nothing that captures attention in this deck.

The magere Brug is one of the most beautiful bridges in Amsterdam. She goes over the Amstel. Several times a day, she is raised to allow through bigger ships. This is of particular interest. Also in the evening, the bridge is a real eye-catcher, when it is illuminated by 1200 light bulbs. Really great!

Amsterdam has about 1500 bridges (which is more than Venice), but this is one of the most famous ones and by far my favorite. The iconic Dutch style and the lights that shine on the Amstel river at ni...  more »

Gorgeous bridge. But to keep it gorgeous, people need to stop hanging their oh so romantic love locks on it. The bridge is ancient as can be and isn't built to handle the weight of your cliche padlocks. To make sure it doesn't collapse, it costs a lot of taxpayer money to have the locks removed (this happens regularly). Please let this bridge last longer than your fleeting cliche padlock romance.

Was the Magere Brug Cafe. Lovely food. Good prices. Quick courteous service. Neat inside and outside seating. Booking essential.

Amsterdam's iconic wooden bridge. Legend says that when you kiss your loved one either on or underneath the bridge, you'll stay together for a lifetime.

Yes, Amsterdam has many wonderful bridges but the Magere Brug ( Skinny Bridge) has to be in the top five! We are lucky enough to live close to it and so we cross it every day. It is lifted regularly to let high boats pass under it and this is always great to see. There are troughs with flowers that can be admired during the day and when lit up at night it's a real spectacle. Standing on the bridge you get a great view of life on and near the Amstel including wonderful houses and the Carre Theatre. Don't miss it or this part of the city.

Nice place to get really good images. If you will be creative - you will get them at any season and weather conditions
