Jewish Historical Museum, Amsterdam

(4/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Housed in Amsterdam's Jewish Quarter, Jewish Historical Museum documents the hardships and journeys of the nation's religious and cultural minority through artifacts, art, and music. Visit the museum, located in a series of former synagogues, and explore its rotating collection of more than 11,000 objects. Look for the themed exhibitions focusing on the customs and traditions of Judaism, as well as their place in Dutch history. Join one of the museum's guided tours, each with a different focus, to gain a more in-depth understanding of specific topics in Dutch-Jewish history. Temporary displays and galleries make up a great deal of the museum's offerings, so be sure to check the website to see which displays are open during your visit. • Visited with my son (10 years). We were mainly in the children's Museum. Very nicely done. Especially in the kitchen at the Matze baking we learned much about the Jewish culture.

  • This museum has the Jewish culture on all sides. The building is beautiful and the exhibited old objects they gorgeous. The exhibition about prejudice t.o.v. Jewish culture I found worth to read carefully. The grandchildren of 12 and 15 have found it less interesting than that I found it. We still have hopped in the children's museum that look nice. In the kitchen were children matses.

  • You have to dedicate a whole day to absorb all the info! Great exhibitions, easy explanations, perfect audio guide. It is detailed and well researched. We need more of these in Europe, so we never forget how we treated Jews and how should they be treated. Congratulations! :-)
  • Well built the Dutch Jewish history museum. The ticket includes entrance to four more other related sites, like the Portuguese synagogue across the street. Highly recommended.
  • A nice museum about Jewish history. It's worth a visit if you have Jewish heritage.
  • A very nice museum. Well done and worth a visit. Management should note that people giving guided tours tend to block portions of some areas and are so self absorbed that they make it difficult for others to view the material displayed. Still well worth the visit.
  • Very nice museum telling the history of the Jews in Amsterdam. The museum also has a small synagogue and is located close to the big synagogue of Amsterdam.
