Electric Ladyland Fluorescent Art Museummla, Amsterdam

3.5
#36 of 111 in Museums in Amsterdam
Explore a different kind of art at Electric Ladyland Fluorescent Art Museummla, the world's first fluorescent art museum, created by American artist Nick Padalino. Descend into a cellar and discover the atmosphere aglow in 1970s style, named after a Jimmy Hendrix album. The one-room, cave-like exhibit features multicolor diplays of fluorescent objects. In spite of its small size, the trippy experience tends to be memorable. The museum also features a large collection of rocks and other elements that naturally react to ultraviolet light. Look for the glass case full of gray stones that explode with flecks of electric color once under the black light. • Went here with two friends and loved it! A very unique experience and found a new interest in the art of UV lights. Also very nice to see an owner who was so passionate and knowledgable of his museum....  more »

  • Had a great time, and a great chat with the owner who has obviously invested a lot of time and in a way, mastered his art. It's a shame so many of the reviews here are from people who didn't actually go to the exhibit. Some of the pictures from my trip speak for themselves.
  • The "Electric Ladyland Fluorescent Art Museum" is spectacular. The owner explains a lot of thing about mineral. When we arrived, we sensed something of magic.. the colour, the originality of little things, the pictures and other.. we paid only 5 € and it was worth it. I recommend it to all lovers of mind-expanding.
  • Worth checking out while in Amsterdam. Make sure to schedule your appointment online, you do not pay then but it help to give the owner an idea of when to expect crowds. The collection is in a basement filled with florescent rocks, pigments, art, and history. It was very inspiring to hear the owner talk about his collection and the history of it, he is truly passionate about fluorescents and a joy to learn from. Warning, it is a small basement that can sometimes be packed, not good for people with claustrophobia or who get anxious in crowds.
  • This is a nice little place. The museum is just a single room in the basement of the house. You could be done looking into everything in 30 mins. The owner seems very passionate about the exhibits.
  • My boyfriend had raved about this place and I was keen to see it. We went on 3 different days in plenty of time for the advertised tour times and would hang around for up to an hour with no luck... No signs anywhere at the museum saying it wouldn't be open and nothing online apart from Google reviews like this one. I saw many disappointed tourists wasting atleast an hour hoping that it would open.
