Dam Square, Amsterdam

3.7
At the historical center of the city, Dam Square, attend an event or tour nearby sites, such as the Royal Palace. The area's name comes from its original function as a dam on the Amstel River in 1270. In addition to the Royal Palace, built in Neoclassical style in the 17th century, the square is also home to the National Monument, Gothic New Church, and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Visit these sites, use the square as a meeting point for friends, or stop by during one of its many events. • Obligatory point of passage, one side is occupied by the Royal Palace, rather modest compared to other places of residence (including our Quirinale). Among other things it is not the official residence of the King, located in the Hague. Adjacent is the new church that, like all Protestant churches, is quite bare and doesn't justify the payment of an admission fee if not for the organ concerts that often keep you. More substantial element of the square is the National Monument, that's not particularly interesting.

  • Really cool place to wander unhurried, sit in one of the bars or cafes and keep enjoying the site. Looks good next to several other nearby attractions, i.e. part of the way to get to know Amsterdam

  • The central square of Amsterdam. Crowded at any time. Piles of bicycles parked in the apprentice. Three good cafes. Souvenir shops. An impressive monument and Obelisk carved stone figures. A Center for demonstrations. There's no way to visit Amsterdam without for this artist. Main street connect it to.

  • Wonderful souvenirs sold at a reasonable price. A wide range of souvenirs. Near the main touristy area. Worth a visit!
  • Best souvenir shop in the heart of it all. Much better than other heavy tourist areas.
  • A fun place. Full of life. Full if activities, food, drink, ice creams, games. It is a walking distance to the red light district where you can look at the night life (no photographing). The shopping in the area is stupendous, unbelievable.
  • Lovely place so much goes on around here it's unbelievable how Bizzy it is all day and night
  • More expensive than some other places but located in the heart of the tourist section.
