Create an itinerary including Cafe Thijssen
Away from touristy Amsterdam, where two of the most beautiful canals of the city meet, you will find Café Thijssen. Well known and appreciated by the locals, this is a no-nonsense bar with a classical look and feel. The wide beer selection, good coffee and food, great view and easy going atmosphere make this ‘brown café’ a perfect base from which to explore the real Amsterdam.

  • Easily in the top ten of the worst service in A’dam, although the competition is fierce!! Took us 2hrs to eat a few sandwiches, then when the order finally came something of course was missing...

  • Good place to eat. Lots of seating outside. Sunny weather worth enjoying. Will call good decent. Nothing great. Service is really really slow. So if you are in a rush, avoid.

  • Almost 5 stars. Very nice place near to our hotel. Surprise with the quality of food and friendly staff.
  • Nice seating, very tasty sandwiches.
  • I highly recommend this place. We have been there two times, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The quality of the food is high and the prices are affordable. There is a lot of space to sit (inside and outside). The waiters are friendly and kind. We did reserve for a breakfast buffet, but not for dinner the day before and the staff handled our orders (26 people) astonishingly well.
  • Don’t eat here, you will waste your time and overpay. We waited for almost 1:30 hours for our food (simple tostis and breads) when they did they had forgotten 1 plate. We had to wait 10 more minutes. Food was nothing exceptional. They also forgot our drink order, and all the glasses were dirty. Don’t waste your time.
  • Service was horrendous! First, we waited for a server, then thought maybe we have to order inside, as the waiter walked past us he said he would be right with us. He eventually came back, and we ordered nachos, and asked his if he could clear the dirty table, again he said he would. Well that didn’t happen, so we asked again after 20 minutes. Then 20 minutes after that we asked how much longer would the nachos be, oh he said maybe you ordered them to early. On the menu it states they will serve them after 12pm. He comes back to the table and said oh they won’t make them until after 5 pm. The place was giving people the wrong orders, wrong drinks, and was totally unorganized! Who knows if the food is any good😖
