  • About 15 minutes by car from Huis Doorn you'll find Amerongen Castle (Kasteel Amerongen). Kaiser Wilhelm lived here for before he moved to Huis Doorn. He was the guest of Count Godard John George Char...  more »
  • The park to the castle is beautiful. The tour was very good, a lot of knowledge in the Guide provided. They also knew "juicy" stories to tell about the history of the inhabitants of the Castle.

  • Beautiful castle and gardens. The history goes back to the middle ages, but the medieval castle was burned to the ground by French king Louis XIV. The 'new' castle dates from around 1680 and was redecorated by architect Cuypers around 1900, in which state it now can be seen. A lot of restauration has been carried out during the past years, but they are not there yet... Gives a realistic view on the high costs and efforts that comes with old houses though. Castle and gardens are however lovingly maintained by 'angels' and 'garden gnomes', who do a great job. Our guide was well informed, but a bit in a hurry (so I did not have the time to see everyting I wanted to see) due to the group that was to follow ours (probably a private tour followed by a party). Also a very fine location for weddings. Concerts (early music, jazz) are being organised at the castle grounds as well as fairs.
  • Really nice castle. With plenty of hiking routes around the old city of Amerongen.
  • Mooi kasteel met interessante rondleiding.
  • Goede paasbrunch bij kasteel amerongen, uitstekend gegeten
  • Nice guided tour of 1,5 hour
