Cheese Market, Alkmaar
(4/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Stop by the Alkmaar's Waagplein square to indulge in the tastes and traditions of the famous Cheese Market. The Alkmaar region is renowned for its cheese, and the makers have been selling their product in the city for at least 400 years. After the bell opens the market, the whole square erupts with activity. See how the experts inspect the cheese, witness the frantic haggling, admire the special walk of the carriers who haul huge loads of cheese on barrows suspended from their shoulders, and don't miss the chance to do some tasting and bargaining yourself. To improve your understanding of the market activities, check out the presentations, available in various languages. The market is in the center of the city and is easily accessible by car or public transportation from other cities. Plan your visit to Cheese Market and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Alkmaar vacation builder.

  • Even if it is not the real cheese market, they sell good quality products, whith fine taste, and have a perfectly up to date marketing policy ;-)
  • It's really interesting to learn how the things worked back there. You can see and touch the history, in addition there are various types of cheese to try and buy. This is the heritage of Holland, the village where our favourite cheese had been first made and then sold.
  • Nice to experience touch of Holland😊
  • Really nice experience to a time to have done it. Very suitable for a day away and for larger groups, it is also nice to get to. There is a nice and cosy atmosphere.
