Phu Chi Fa Forest Park, Thoeng

4.7
#2 of 18 in Nature in Chiang Rai Province
Known for its natural beauty, Phu Chi Fa Forest Park offers views of surrounding mountains and hills. Visit during the most popular time, at dawn, to see the sunrise and the sea of mist that fills the low-lying lands around the mountain. Also keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like barking deer, wild boar, canaries, and magpies. Remember to dress warm in preparation for the summit's cool temperatures, and pack a meal because food options on the mountain are limited. Our Thoeng holiday builder website makes visiting Phu Chi Fa Forest Park and other Thoeng attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • I can only say that the view is worth the effort. We climbed up for sunset and the view was superb. There were less than a dozen local tourists. The light was perfect for photography. We stayed until ...  more »
  • Arrived in the morning from Chiang Rai by taxi (usually costs 4000 baht, but found the taxi 2000 baht per car). Took the 3 a.m. and took on darkness. Came at five in the morning. Took the lanterns and went up to 700 metres. Were the first. Terrific sky! Many stars! Around dark and can not see anything except the sky. Then began to move up to a bunch of people (mainly Chinese, Vietnamese and local). Sunrise incredible! All recommend. Better, of course, stops for a couple of nights somewhere nearby, but we had little time, therefore, were driving from Chiang Rai

  • The drive itself to this place was almost better than the hike . Do the drive all the way through (the portion between Phu Sang and phu chi fa, not just the portion from Thoeng). Beautiful drive through the mountains . It’s a touristy spot for Thai locals too so don’t get ripped off on accommodation. We opted to just stay elsewhere away from phu chi fa because it was too expensive . Hike itself was easy to get to , took 20 minutes to read the peak (only 750 m hike). Food and tourist shirts sold at the base of the hike. Little Hmong children sing and dance in different locations as you hike your way up but it was honestly pretty sad and clearly child labor as the parents watched on and did nothing and kids were miserable . Had some cloud cover on the view but still pretty!
  • This is the best thing with Thailand all their forest and national parks. Do not miss the sunset in the morning. Thats why everybody come here. Make sure you only visit in the high season the peak is closed during rainy season.
  • This is a nice view for sun rise. Not as many international tourist as I think. Mostly just the local. Follow me in Instagram: Paoleestudio
