Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani

(900+ reviews on the web)
National Park Nature / Park
Trek through the dramatic scenery of Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and the wettest spot in Thailand. Jagged rock formations extend 300-600 m (984-1,969 ft) upward from Cheow Lan Lake with luscious green vegetation clinging to their sides and waterfalls tumbling from them. Elephants, tigers, tapirs, deer, boars, bears, gibbons, macaques, and many more wild animals roam the jungle (some 5 percent of the world's species in total). Take a boat across the lake, and follow winding trails that crisscross the park as you admire the bounteous flora and fauna. Flash floods, leeches, and slippery ground make the wet season significantly more dangerous, but some may wish to risk the hazards for the increased likelihood of spotting the big animals who become more active during this period. Plan your visit to Khao Sok National Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Surat Thani travel itinerary planner.

  • Spend your days in the jungle. Lake is far from the entrance and expensive. Better to stay in jungle if you don't want to pay.  more »

  • One of the most amazing places in Thailand! History and views of the lake are beyond the edge of imagination. Even rainy day is not excuse for missing the chance to see the lake.
  • Amazing park. The main attraction is a giant lake created by a dam. You can stay on rafts on the lake and explore caves and see widlife. It is truly remote, cell phones don't even get reception. Overall one of my best natural exploring experiences. I will definitely go back and spend even more time there.
  • This is a gem inside Thailand many people miss. If you get here, you will see a stunning tropical evergreen forest, hear many birds and insects (and see gibbons or other mammals if you're lucky). The village near the entrance is still not over crowded with hoards of tourists, it's quiet and relaxing with many restaurants and local shops. When you get here, you have to book a tour for half/one or more days and they all sell the same thing. You can try to walk the treks by yourself, but it's not recommended. Also a 2 days trip to the lake is highly recommended. Overall this place is great for a laid back time with some trekking in between in a beautiful jungle.
  • Beautiful area. Spent a few days hiking and camping around here. The couple of night we spent on the lake were beautiful and there is so much hiking around here. Just make sure to bring bug spray.
  • A great park. It would be good if clear legislation was introduced with regards to charging foreigners who have work permits in Thailand. Some said they could get a discount because they pay tax, some didn't.
