Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani

(4.3/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Trek through the dramatic scenery of Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and the wettest spot in Thailand. Jagged rock formations extend 300-600 m (984-1,969 ft) upward from Cheow Lan Lake with luscious green vegetation clinging to their sides and waterfalls tumbling from them. Elephants, tigers, tapirs, deer, boars, bears, gibbons, macaques, and many more wild animals roam the jungle (some 5 percent of the world's species in total). Take a boat across the lake, and follow winding trails that crisscross the park as you admire the bounteous flora and fauna. Flash floods, leeches, and slippery ground make the wet season significantly more dangerous, but some may wish to risk the hazards for the increased likelihood of spotting the big animals who become more active during this period. Plan your visit to Khao Sok National Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Surat Thani travel itinerary planner.

  • I was with my girlfriend in the khao sok National Park, mainly to take a tour to the Lake. We were on the road one day and that was also sufficient in our opinion to see the impressive landscape. However the National Park close to the accommodation is not recommended, there's just a wide footpath along the Brown Sok River. Nothing what not everywhere else also seen in Thailand. Except perhaps unnoticed five got off the many leeches, of which in the Park. The only positive aspect for us: we are only at 4: 00 in the Park and got there just a ticket which was valid on the next day for the sea tour. Conclusion: more than one day's worth to spend is not here. We went off directly back to the Lake tour.

  • Khao Sok National Park with its unique Lake, this is some unreal magical place! I did not expect anything so beautiful and remarkable! Range of mountains, crystal clear and warm Lake, the atmosphere of relaxation and seclusion! Very beautiful and picturesque! It is necessary to go to 2 days to enjoy the beauty of nature and relax the mind, we went at 1 day and I feel that I was little!

  • This is a gem inside Thailand many people miss. If you get here, you will see a stunning tropical evergreen forest, hear many birds and insects (and see gibbons or other mammals if you're lucky). The village near the entrance is still not over crowded with hoards of tourists, it's quiet and relaxing with many restaurants and local shops. When you get here, you have to book a tour for half/one or more days and they all sell the same thing. You can try to walk the treks by yourself, but it's not recommended. Also a 2 days trip to the lake is highly recommended. Overall this place is great for a laid back time with some trekking in between in a beautiful jungle.
  • Amazing park. The main attraction is a giant lake created by a dam. You can stay on rafts on the lake and explore caves and see widlife. It is truly remote, cell phones don't even get reception. Overall one of my best natural exploring experiences. I will definitely go back and spend even more time there.
  • Fantastic day out and great scenery. We even saw a couple of monkeys jumping around in the trees above us. We all swam in the lake and enjoyed the boat ride. Don't miss this out if you're near. Family with two children (7&9).
  • Khao Sok is a hidden jewel of Thailand. Although i would want to keep this place a secret, its popularity is increasing by the day. it is just beautiful the way this jungle is now. Perfect escape from the touristy places in Thailand .
  • Absolutely beautiful nature, no access to it, full of tourist places and tourists! Have to pay for entering the park! Without the guide can walk only 3km in the jungle. Not possible to go further. Renting canoe boat is only possible if you take a part in an excursion with other people.
