Trek through the dramatic scenery of Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and the wettest spot in Thailand. Jagged rock formations extend 300-600 m (984-1,969 ft) upward from Cheow Lan Lake with luscious green vegetation clinging to their sides and waterfalls tumbling from them. Elephants, tigers, tapirs, deer, boars, bears, gibbons, macaques, and many more wild animals roam the jungle (some 5 percent of the world's species in total). Take a boat across the lake, and follow winding trails that crisscross the park as you admire the bounteous flora and fauna. Flash floods, leeches, and slippery ground make the wet season significantly more dangerous, but some may wish to risk the hazards for the increased likelihood of spotting the big animals who become more active during this period. The Lake we only saw a Hornbill and an eagle and not monkeys but during our hike at Khao Sok we saw a family of Langurs and one of macaques! We spent the night on the Lake, the next day we had kayaking at dawn and puiy visited the grotto of coral. (Difficult for people not at home in the dark). The Boatman and the guide also took us for a walk in the jungle next to the Lake. We saw a thick, humid jungle and "Gold Spider" is very impressive gold spiders. The path in the jungle of Khao Sok is easy and accessible to the family. However, there is no loop. We took the route following the majority of the falls but with the heat we don't even not arrived on the first drop, which was to be a 2.5 km from the start. We bathed in the 1st spot in the river after 1.5 km. We doubt about the accuracy of the distance data. We are good walkers and walked fast. But the jungle is beautiful and the noises you hear are unique. For the Park, allow entries that are charged (300 baht per person for hiking in from the village of Khao Sok Khao Sok jungle). This still very little known Park is a little treasure. The Lake is not very old (construction of the dam in the 1980s) now this Lake has little airs of Halong Bay...
if you have your own car/motorbike skip the entrance fee for the National Park and head towards the Dam-lake in Suratthani. Just 20km east of the NP-entrance you'll find great sceneries, go for some s... more »
The views from the boat, when you sail along the lake are fantastic. Nature, jungle, monkeys, fish, and turkiz water. more »
This place is beautiful! A wild and wonderful jungle gem, nestled between the Gulf and Andaman coasts. You can do a tour of Thailand's largest lake (made in the 80s), explore exciting water-filled caves, take a scenic boat ride or just soak up the views from a riverside bungalow. But the very best part is that you can enjoy some self-guided hiking! The jungle is dense and full of spots to stop and swim near little waterfalls, and potential animal encounters! A very fun escape from the crowds on the beaches. See another side of Southern Thailand!
Had a wonderful time here. The resort is perfectly rustic, and quaint. The staff was incredibly friendly and fun. We opted to do the boating day and dinners included in our stay and it was great. With the dinners, they surprised us each night with a Thai dinner set that was fantastic. Really fun and exciting experience. The AC worked very well and the showers were good.
It is a really nice park and the trekking routes are good. However if you don't take a guide, you won't see very much because the open route just has two spots to swim before the sign "No guide, stop here" appears. We haven't seen much of the park because we just had one day. I think, you need at least 3 to 4 days to see a little.
Beautiful place! A few hours boating on the lake were very relaxing. Definitely worth going for 2-3 days, feels like you are far away from civilization and camping though we stayed in bungalows).
Wonderfully conserved. Both rangers and guides were very helpful! Night safari was a fantastic experience. We were lucky enough to see a civet cat with younglings! We also did a lovely day tour on the lake and visited some fantastic underwater caves
