Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani
(4.1/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Trek through the dramatic scenery of Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and the wettest spot in Thailand. Jagged rock formations extend 300-600 m (984-1,969 ft) upward from Cheow Lan Lake with luscious green vegetation clinging to their sides and waterfalls tumbling from them. Elephants, tigers, tapirs, deer, boars, bears, gibbons, macaques, and many more wild animals roam the jungle (some 5 percent of the world's species in total). Take a boat across the lake, and follow winding trails that crisscross the park as you admire the bounteous flora and fauna. Flash floods, leeches, and slippery ground make the wet season significantly more dangerous, but some may wish to risk the hazards for the increased likelihood of spotting the big animals who become more active during this period. Plan your visit to Khao Sok National Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Surat Thani travel itinerary planner.

  • For 300 baht per person is the Khao Sok National Park for Thai conditions quite expensive. Unfortunately you get from a 4 km long, fairly broad, muddy dirt road through a little spectacular nothing for the price of admission simply and partly used part of the Park. While the fauna and flora is not interesting along the way to little. The trail ends suddenly with the note that it goes on here only with a guide, otherwise will incur a penalty of 1000 baht P.p... A guided tour can be booked from 1,500 baht. Reason: Security. A motorbike loaned drunk underage tourists everyone gets here without problems and driver's license, but the walk in the forest is too dangerous? Otherwise, there are vending machines around the entrance of the National Park some tree houses, bungalows & resort, a few restaurants, massage parlours, shopping and an ATM. There is night life here, at least not as we were not. We in the two different buildings, a bungalow in the garden (400 baht) and a room into a mini resort (450 baht) have stayed. The town is relatively quiet and reminiscent of a sleepy mountain village. Most recently I still warn tubing, driving a truck hose by the Sok River. My girlfriend and I would repeatedly attacked by bubble fish, leave painful bloody bite wounds. More than one day of stay not worth here in General. A stop at a drive-through is okay.
