Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani
(4.1/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Trek through the dramatic scenery of Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and the wettest spot in Thailand. Jagged rock formations extend 300-600 m (984-1,969 ft) upward from Cheow Lan Lake with luscious green vegetation clinging to their sides and waterfalls tumbling from them. Elephants, tigers, tapirs, deer, boars, bears, gibbons, macaques, and many more wild animals roam the jungle (some 5 percent of the world's species in total). Take a boat across the lake, and follow winding trails that crisscross the park as you admire the bounteous flora and fauna. Flash floods, leeches, and slippery ground make the wet season significantly more dangerous, but some may wish to risk the hazards for the increased likelihood of spotting the big animals who become more active during this period. Plan your visit to Khao Sok National Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Surat Thani travel itinerary planner.

  • We have decided for the 2 day tour with an overnight stay in the floating huts. Before we arrived at the pier of the Park we were released on a small market out of the bus. There you could buy waterproof backpacks and water shoes etc (which you really need). The first day started with a boat tour to the huts where we should sleep. The nature there is very beautiful. The huts were bad. Very easily stopped, just 2 mattresses on the floor and a fan. However before we knew. The bad thing was that the mattresses were really disgusting. By dubious yellow large patches of black small animals or parts of plants, it's not... well know for there lunch "Check-in". This was something in terms of canteen but ok. Will a pot of rice on the table and dishes are then each serving dishes, of which with 2-3 of different Thai. Then we took a walk through the jungle and into a cave. It is about muddy narrow trails and in part by water (which is sometimes enough one up to the neck). We were not for everyone, very exciting times to do that. The amount of water depends on the rainy season. Arrived back at the huts, some people decide not to stay there, because they found it so bad. The next day would have offered a similar program: boat ride, walk... so we decided to go there. One of the staff brought us then to eight in the longtail boat on land. Long story short: not worth it 2 day tour and is in my opinion much too expensive for what you get. Better day tour and possibly caves visiting book. In these works, you get to no eye ever!

  • We went to the Park on a private tour which allows to take his temper and avoid groups. In the Park we did a ballad to an elephant. I know it is very touristy but a dream kid despite the rain. Then we went down a river on a raft in the middle of the forest bamboo of the karst Pitons. The Park deserves to spend at least one night.

  • We did some hiking on your own, there you can sit on the banks of the river nice and long run well even on the roads. In between, we had an encounter with a family of monkeys who welcomed us very curious.
