Religious Site Tourist Spot
Stroll through the impressive ruins of Wat Maha That, at one time an important royal monastery and today a World Heritage Site. Erected around 1374 CE, the complex contained enshrined relics of Buddha and was strategically situated close to the Grand Palace. It served as the seat of the Supreme Patriarch of the City Dwelling sect for many years. Today, significant remnants of the imposing monastery still stand, including brick edifices and stone sculptures, all surrounded by verdant lawns. Put Wat Maha That at the forefront of your travel plans using our Sukhothai trip itinerary maker.

  • This temple is actually part of the Ayutthaya ruins. The Buddha in the tree is really impressive. Some very nice statues near by.  more »
  • I am not a huuuuuuuge fan of temples and also not too keen to learn everything about a specific place but yes, Wat Mahathat certainly is a very nice place to visit. Highly recommended.  more »
