Wat Maha That, Sukhothai
(4.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Stroll through the impressive ruins of Wat Maha That, at one time an important royal monastery and today a World Heritage Site. Erected around 1374 CE, the complex contained enshrined relics of Buddha and was strategically situated close to the Grand Palace. It served as the seat of the Supreme Patriarch of the City Dwelling sect for many years. Today, significant remnants of the imposing monastery still stand, including brick edifices and stone sculptures, all surrounded by verdant lawns. Put Wat Maha That at the forefront of your travel plans using our Sukhothai trip itinerary maker.

  • It was very fantastic lit up in a limited time. This is reminiscent of paradise view during the day and scenery. It was feelings even in heaven came to Buddha.

  • Strange that this place confused with others. And here Ajuttajja. We at Sukhothai weather. Now comes the celebration of the 25 anniversary of the proclamation of the historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and from 3 December to January 17 years 1/3/17 the lucky ones will see this incredible beauty to behold. From 18.00 till 21.00 Park but rather the Wat Mahathat lit live fire and artificial. This incredible spectacle of beauty and I think it's still and see only those who live in the old city, from the old Sukhothai architechture mixing in new machines with the latest tourists leave in the 17-30. It is a pity. Come and see this. Even the photographs cannot convey the beauty of the colors of fire night and today, and a full moon. In connection with the death of the King, to my deep regret, entry is free before the end of January. And my advice: If you have already arrived here to see another historic park also in the UNESCO Kampaengphete, is 70 km. He has a different, but no less beautiful. And here there was not a single tourist at all. And live on the banks of the ping River, it's worth it, I recommend the Grand Resort. Do not be intimidated by the word resort prices from 300 to 600 baht. And what there rooms right on the water.

  • Wat Mahathat is the most important temple as the principle temple of Sukhothai.
  • Must seen place when being neer by Sukhothai. You can rent a cycle and have a trip inside. Very intersting park (plan AT LEAST to spend half a day there... you won't regret it).
  • Wat Maha That is the former Royal Temple of Siam's first Capital Sukothai.
