National Park Historic Site
Visit the cradle of Thai civilization at Si Satchanalai Historical Park, a World Heritage Site featuring the ruins of the former city of Si Satchanalai. The ancient city was the second city in the Sukhothai Kingdom, and the residence of the crown prince in the 13th and 14th century. Today the site documents early Thai architecture, sculpture, and art. Wander the grounds to see ancient Buddha figures, palace buildings, and ruined temples, all in a setting of deep green trees, bushes, and lawns. You can tour the ruins on foot, by bike, or take a leisurely tram ride. Our Sukhothai holiday planner makes visiting Si Satchanalai Historical Park and other Sukhothai attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Where to stay in Sukhothai

Sukhothai tourism has been growing for decades, meaning you can now find many places to stay around town, even on a budget. Most accommodations are in New Sukhothai, which lies 12 km (7.45 mi) from the historical park, but lacks many interesting sights of its own. However, good transport connections between the two cities make it easy to explore the historical city on a day trip. If you have a bit more in your budget, save yourself some traveling time by staying near the old city. Do your homework before you book, though--some of the older hotels have a reputation for being run-down and not particularly clean.

  • Beautiful historical park. Best explore by bike given its scale and expansive ground. Like Sukhothai historical park, this place is kept clean with well paved road. Information provide at site and through qr code. Temples in here are grand and well preserved. An hour from Sukhothai center but absolutely worth the visit.
  • 4 temples in a row, 800m distance walking... suggesting to rent the bike or using your shuttle (extra fee) to avoid hot sun...
