Si Satchanalai Historical Park, Sukhothai

4.7
#4 of 17 in Historic Sites in Sukhothai
Visit the cradle of Thai civilization at Si Satchanalai Historical Park, a World Heritage Site featuring the ruins of the former city of Si Satchanalai. The ancient city was the second city in the Sukhothai Kingdom, and the residence of the crown prince in the 13th and 14th century. Today the site documents early Thai architecture, sculpture, and art. Wander the grounds to see ancient Buddha figures, palace buildings, and ruined temples, all in a setting of deep green trees, bushes, and lawns. You can tour the ruins on foot, by bike, or take a leisurely tram ride. Si Satchanalai Historical Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Sukhothai Edition.

  • Beautiful! Don't miss this resort. The best photos... a great experience to add to the trip. Buddhas with clothing while waiting for a great photo.

  • About 60 kms from Sukhothai this site is the ruin of a former satellite town of Sukhothai. The Park is huge, with lots of vegetation and wildlife. Many temples in ruin are really worth visiting. The interest of this site is also that it is really quiet, not too touristy.

  • This has to be one of the best historical parks in Thailand it's so beautiful and it's location is amazing as well. I love the fact that is off the beaten track. Fantastic place to visit.
  • If you visit Sukhothai historical national park, you should visit here as well. You can rent a bicycle only 20 Baht and riding around the park. There are a lot of ruin temples. **There is no public transportation traveling from the city to the park**
  • Beautiful historical park. Best explore by bike given its scale and expansive ground. Like Sukhothai historical park, this place is kept clean with well paved road. Information provide at site and through qr code. Temples in here are grand and well preserved. An hour from Sukhothai center but absolutely worth the visit.
  • Recomended for all tourists visitng Sukothai to visit this place with various beautiful and valuable historical temples. The place is also surrounded by trees providing nice atmosphere. The entrance fee for foreigners are THB 100 and THB 20 for Thais. You can also rent the bicycle at THB 20 for normal bikes and THB 80 for tendem. You can walk around the places by yourself or take the provided shuttle service to travel around the areas too. Don't forget to prepare some drinks while travelling inside the park.
  • 4 temples in a row, 800m distance walking... suggesting to rent the bike or using your shuttle (extra fee) to avoid hot sun...

Where to stay in Sukhothai

Sukhothai tourism has been growing for decades, meaning you can now find many places to stay around town, even on a budget. Most accommodations are in New Sukhothai, which lies 12 km (7.45 mi) from the historical park, but lacks many interesting sights of its own. However, good transport connections between the two cities make it easy to explore the historical city on a day trip. If you have a bit more in your budget, save yourself some traveling time by staying near the old city. Do your homework before you book, though--some of the older hotels have a reputation for being run-down and not particularly clean.
