Where to stay in Sukhothai

Sukhothai tourism has been growing for decades, meaning you can now find many places to stay around town, even on a budget. Most accommodations are in New Sukhothai, which lies 12 km (7.45 mi) from the historical park, but lacks many interesting sights of its own. However, good transport connections between the two cities make it easy to explore the historical city on a day trip. If you have a bit more in your budget, save yourself some traveling time by staying near the old city. Do your homework before you book, though--some of the older hotels have a reputation for being run-down and not particularly clean.

  • A unique look into the past history of this great nation. If your in the Sukothai district it's a definite must see.  more »
  • Located across the road from the Sukhothai historical park, the museum tells us more about the history of the town and houses some of the artifacts unearthed during the excavation and restoration. The...  more »
  • This is a good starting point before you enter the park . There is some good artifacts but unless you are a true historian I wouldn't linger more than an hour . There is so much more to see outside!!  more »

  • For 150 baht, definitely worth it. Two buildings - displays in the first one you enter will utterly dissapoint you. The second building, however, was brilliant. A large old building with two expansive floors and a grand staircase. Really detailed, informative displays on the history of the area, Buddhism, the history of Thai writing, mythology, countless artefacts: relics, weapons, buddha images, stone tablets, and much more. English explanations were largely detailed and informative. Especially enjoyed the explanation of the different postures that Buddha images can be found in. Learned a lot from my visit here.
  • It is the place you should spend good time with art artifacts, many beautiful Buddha images as well. Don't forget to explore the outside area. There are replicas of stucco elephants and replica of Sangkalok kiln that give you some aspects of history.
  • Old style museum. Thanksfully I got free entry. But 150baht is Overpriced. If you enjoy reading wall it's probably fine btw. But the orchids outside are great.
  • Definitely must see it. The ruins around don't have many details left.
  • Nice museum :)
