#2 of 11 in Outdoors in Sattahip
Ko Samae San is a small island with many sandy beaches providing excellent swimming opportunities and access to good snorkeling spots. You can bike around the island or trek through the lush forest, as well as visit a small natural history museum housing a whale skeleton. Because of the proximity of a Thai naval base, you need to book a tour through a local operator to visit this destination. How do you say, close to the Royal Thai Navy base, water quality, scary. Somewhere near the city of Thailand during the rainy season, instead of the Islands have beautiful water, because the Navy. Not many foreign visitors, facilities very good, before entering the island on a military restricted area, a Thai Naval History Museum. Thai people love, black sleek, good honest. Some say Thailand's security, this is definitely the biggest cheat. Thai is much higher quality than the people. In a Thai village, feel the real Thai, and away from the man-made landscape. This is the tourism. Even the large fishing port near the shore, you can't imagine how cheap seafood, how good is the water!!! I believe that this is really a seafood!! If you really have been to Pattaya have to rent a car or drive over, here is the tourist paradise. Many attractions, TripAdvisor has no income, but the place is so beautiful

Secluded and peaceful island with clear blue water! Island is controlled by Thai navy and only ~500 people are allowed on the island per day so you have to get to the pier quite early in the day to secure a place on the shuttle boat to the island. The downside is the toilets on the island which could be improved. Oh and bikinis are not allowed on the island

It was really beautiful island. It was a place where a very safe and clean sea was maintained because it was under the control of the Thai Navy. Not so many tourists, it was a pleasant and relaxing trip. You can enjoy snorkeling on the island, and you can see countless fish in clear waters.

Beautiful, secluded island with not too many tourists. A good beach to relax, swim, and snorkel for a day trip from Bangkok. However, the transportation is very inconvenient to get here, so I had to hire a private taxi, which cost quite a bit. The cost of entering the island and the food and drinks that you can get in the island adds up. There were some garbage floating around the beach in the morning, but the current took them away in the afternoon. Public washroom was there, but I didn't think was being treated before being sent to the shore, so not sure if the good quality of the beach and water will last long. Recommended for those who are looking for a good day on the beach near Bangkok.

Save yourself 600 baht (thai 300). To start you have to get there no later than 6am or be stuck waiting for a boat past noon. The island's only beach is tiny and overcrowded with constant chatter on the loud speaker from a guy that thinks he's a comedian. While snorkeling (+50 baht) you'll see the same fish you've just seen at the pier. Oh there are also rusty bikes with no brakes with seats that are unreasonably low for a person of any height that you can take to a garbage filled grassy beach area. Bleh

Where to stay in Sattahip

Quieter than neighboring resorts, Sattahip offers a good range of accommodations, though not quite the variety provided by Pattaya. Close to the sea, find mid-range and expensive resort-style hotels, along with comfortable and more economical guesthouses. Stay closer to the main road running parallel to the coast to pay less for rooms without sea views.
