Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and Walking Trail, Sai Yok

(4.7/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
See an important reminder of World War II at Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and Walking Trail, commemorating part of the route of the Burma Railway. Known also as the "Death Railway," the line was constructed by POWs held by Japanese forces, along with Asian slave-laborers. This particular section was cut through solid rock by Allied prisoners and slaves working under treacherous conditions, with little rest or food. Now a museum, the site allows you to walk through the valley and learn about this tragic period in human history, with a range of exhibits and touching memorials to those that suffered here. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Sai Yok holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and Walking Trail and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • is a small and nice exhibition space near the hellfire pass ... shocking photos and testimonials and the horrors of the camps for the construction of the railway. must see when paired with trip on the train and visit the bridges

  • There is a newer small museum, which tells a bit about the Genesis, a passport as the bloodiest spots during the building of the railroad from Bangkok to Thanbyuzayat in Burma. The trip down to the pass and the remains of the former railway is not for people who are ill.

  • The Hellfire Pass Museum and Trail is well worth visiting for anyone in the Kanchanaburi area. The museum itself is worthwhile, though a lot of the material is a repeat of what the Thailand-Burma Rail...  more »
