Railay Beach, Railay Beach

#1 of 29 in Trails in Thailand
Take a dip into the calm waters at Railay Beach, an isolated strip of sand accessible only by boat. The beach especially attracts rock climbers eager to tackle the limestone cliffs that frame it, with some 700 climbing trails in the surrounding area. Whether or not you scramble up the cliff face you'll enjoy the spot's relaxed atmosphere, clean sand, and clear waters. Onsite restaurants and other amenities cater to a wide range of tastes. The impressive cliffs of the coast provide excellent photo opportunities, and the isolated nature of the beach means you get unimpeded shots of some of Thailand's best coastal landscape. • I came here for rock climbing. There are some tours so if you haven't try it, it is easy to find and join the tour.  more »
  • The beach gets busy and is a bit stony. That said the views of the caves etc is spectacular. There are quieter more sandy beaches.  more »
  • I would definitely return there if I go to Krabi again :) the beach is accessible either from Ao Nang (100bts) or Krabi town pier (150 bats). We were trying to go from the airport to Ao Nam Mao and ta...  more »

  • Picturesque beach and landscape with some rocky hills all around offering one or the other challenging hike to a hidden lagoon or several viewpoints. A big minus are the vast amounts of tourists during season... no feeling of freedom and tranquility possible.
  • It's a beautiful beach, with a Caribbean vibe to it. It's not too crowded and not too empty. There are no annoying sellers bugging you while you try to chill (unlike in Phuket). Maybe the occasional foot massage lady. The sand is soft like flour and the water is refreshing without it being cold. Definitely paradise.
  • While the scenery is absolutely stunning: it just felt wrong to me. This place should be a national park, not a loud, crowded and messy sunbathing spot. Cheap tourist development, luxurious spas, trash... Probably the most beautiful place I‘d recommend not to go to.
  • One of the best place for Travel ... amazing beach .. heaven for photographers who love to capture beaches and landscapes.. one must experience snorkeling in sea near mountains.. if you don’t know swimming still you can try with life jacket..
  • One of the most beautiful beaches that I have visited, The limestone cliff back drop and the green of the water cannot be beat. The beach is a clean, white sandy stretch of beach that is not very long with waves splashing very close to the shore depending on the tide. There are 3-4 resorts right on the beach, adjoining each other. Then there is a quaint little alley which has a lot of small eateries, juice bars, beach stuff shops, Thai massage parlors etc.

Where to stay in Krabi Town

Most accommodations in Krabi Town are located to the southwest of the airport, south of Phet Kasem Road. A selection of boutique hotels jostles for position on the eastern side of the peninsula. The options here can differ greatly in terms of views and facilities, but they are all conveniently located close to the sandy riverbanks. If you're looking for something basic but comfortable, look at the guesthouses and hostels located on side streets just back from the water.
