Wat Suwan Khiriwong, Patong

4.1
#5 of 6 in Sightseeing in Kathu
Landmark Tourist Spot
Enjoy some peace and quiet in the middle of busy central Patong at Wat Suwan Khiriwong. Serpent sculptures lining the stairways lead you to the temple complex, which includes a main chapel, pagoda, and monastery hall. Inside you'll find ornate decorations, wax statues of monks, and golden statues of Buddha. The temple is frequented by locals and tourists alike, and you might get the opportunity to witness some of the local customs, such as the lighting of crackers in the fire pit. Out of respect for these customs, ensure your clothes cover up your shoulders and knees. Plan your visit to Wat Suwan Khiriwong and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Patong trip builder.

  • Beautiful architecture. Really great experience to see! I wasn't dressed appropriately for the occasion as I was bareing my shoulders but someone was on hand to offer me a shawl to go into the temple ...  more »
  • Both Temple and side "chapels" are making a lasting impression with its splendor, exoticism, and the peace which oozes from every corner. The place still not trampled by tourists, by what may have not yet reached there pervasive commercialism. Too bad a little, with the main building was closed, but so worth it.

  • The temple is located on a hillock, at the exit road from Patong. The most part of structures closed for visiting farangov. While outwardly very nice looking Church.

  • We are privileged to be able to visit religious structures like this. Although there are many temples in Asia, they are good to visit for the relaxing atmosphere about them. This one has many structures and are very interesting to look at the different architecture. The day we were there, there were a lot of tourists. There is no charge but donations are always welcome. Visited April 2015.
  • Serene quiet place. Worth paying a visit, however the temple is closed and you can only observe the exterior. Upstair is a temple with monks.
  • It's not a very impressive temple but that's the best one around. Never saw the main building opened.
  • A beautiful little temple.
  • Awesome place! Great architecture and energy! Feel yourself like Lara Croft here:) Check photos on Instagram @worldtourgram
