Pai Canyon, Pai

4.2
#1 of 38 in Things to do in Pai
Thin, red ridges with sheer drops on either side create the steep, forest-filled valleys of Pai Canyon. Climb the steps to the viewing platform to enjoy sweeping views. You can head further down the valley following the path of the ridge, but the poorly maintained track follows a precarious route, so be extra careful if you decide to hike. Because it lacks shade, the path is best tackled in the morning or afternoon. Put Pai Canyon at the forefront of your travel plans using our Pai tour itinerary builder site .

  • Beautiful gorge where you simply can stop. What we believe that miss you not a whole lot if you don't go. A piece about the narrow and smooth roads walk gives better view we think. However, this is not entirely without risk.

  • If you are in Pai Mae Hong Son or you're going to worth the stop by since it is attached to the main road. Advice to ciabattofili to use proper shoes because if one slips here is likely to stay dry. To do it carefully. Sconsgiliato to those who suffer from Vertigo. To me liked it.

  • It was a nice little hike. Make sure you hike this in the morning time because it'll get pretty hot during the day time. Make sure you bring some water as well!  more »

  • Lots of small trails. You could spend a long time walking around here. However, it is extremely crowded (even during low season) so many tourists everywhere it's insane. Guess it's a nice place for sunset or a good photo
  • A safe way up the stairs, on the first viewpoint there are pagodas to rest, but there is much trash from the tourist, no one seems to clean up. If you go further the canyon, there are no signs or anything, you're on your own and it can be slippery and steep even when it's dry, but the view is amazing! At the bottom there are toilets and shops.
  • Nice view however as expected lots of people during sunset. Worth a visit to snap some shots. Probably really peaceful during the day with less people. Drinks sold at the bottom near car park.
  • watch your steps! ;) nice view. Don't go there in the rain
  • Nice views. Skip the sunset trip. Go early and allow a few hours for exploring. Get adventurous and get off the beaten path.

Where to stay in Pai

With tourism now the number-one industry in the area, you shouldn't have any trouble finding accommodations in Pai. In fact, on a walk through the village center you'll be hard-pressed to find a street that doesn't have several hotels or guesthouses. The village's popularity among backpackers means you can choose from a range of hostels and budget guesthouses. Luxury accommodations are more limited, although with a host of excellent mid-range options you can stay in comfort without spending big bucks. When Pai is at its busiest, between November and March, try something on the fringes of the village for a quieter, more peaceful holiday.
