Pai

3.3
Canyons · Hot Springs · Waterfalls
Tourism in Pai has turned the once-quiet mountain village into one of Thailand's busiest rural tourist hubs, for Thai visitors and foreigners alike. Guesthouses now appear to outnumber village buildings, and on any given day there could be more tourists in town than locals, most of whom come from the Shan culture of northwestern Thailand and eastern Myanmar. However, with the picturesque nature surrounding the village remaining largely untouched, a holiday to Pai still offers plenty of rewards. If the crowded shops, bars, and restaurants in the town center get too much, nearby waterfalls and thermal springs offer a relaxing escape. Explore the family-friendly attractions of Pai and add them to your vacation plans using our Thailand trip itinerary app.

Where to stay in Pai

With tourism now the number-one industry in the area, you shouldn't have any trouble finding accommodations in Pai. In fact, on a walk through the village center you'll be hard-pressed to find a street that doesn't have several hotels or guesthouses. The village's popularity among backpackers means you can choose from a range of hostels and budget guesthouses. Luxury accommodations are more limited, although with a host of excellent mid-range options you can stay in comfort without spending big bucks. When Pai is at its busiest, between November and March, try something on the fringes of the village for a quieter, more peaceful holiday.
