Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom

4.5
#1 of 8 in Things to do in Nakhon Pathom
Visit the largest pagoda in Thailand at Phra Pathom Chedi, a temple first established in the 6th century that now houses historical relics and the remains of renowned Thai figures. When you go, look for the image of Buddha bestowing pardon. King Rama VI's relics are kept at the bottom of this statue. The attraction's stupa, a mound-like structure used for meditation, is the tallest in the world. If you get hungry, look for food stalls that line the street leading to the attraction. Where to stay in Nakhon Pathom

A Nakhon Pathom trip is easily completed in a day from Bangkok, but tourists wishing to stay overnight can find accommodations at outdated but comfortable hotels. As in most large cities, prices vary for rooms ranging from backpacker-friendly to upscale. Aim for a hotel near bus stations serving Bangkok if you plan to travel, or near a night market if you want easy access to dining and shopping. Always choose a room away from the street, as the busy city tends to make a lot of noise in the morning and at night.
