Where to stay in Mae Hong Son

Though Mae Hong Son generally lacks accommodations that are anything other than functional, you can expect to find acceptable lodgings here--especially if you're a budget-conscious backpacker. These mostly come in the form of clean, no-frills rooms in guesthouses or hostels. Be prepared for prices to fluctuate, rising during the popular season (between November and January). If you're able and willing to spend a little more, explore the more upscale midrange options on the outskirts of the town center.

  • Simple temple, average during the day, amazing at night!
  • Small and calm in a northern style temple.
  • Small temple that is particularly nice at night. Well lighted with reflections on the adjacent lake and it is breathtaking. One one side of the lake you have vendors selling local foods, fresh fruits and other things to enjoy. See the temple at night, then stroll around the lake - have a barbecued fish or satay, the small pineapple from Chiang rai is spectacularly sweet and juicy, and the people are wonderful. A beautiful spot to find peace.
  • Awesome, unique style, and particulary beautiful at night.
  • Chinese temple overlooking Mae Hong Son lake. Lit up and beautiful at night.
