  • Not really what I was expecting. Set up it seems for the Chinese tourist market. Good restaurants and tea drinking though....
  • The site is worth visiting (which is important because accessible by the main road 1095 on 35 km with lots of curves and slopes!) for lunch on the romantic shores of the Lake. Run places held by Lee Wine network (the hotel Lee Wine Rak Thai resort, always full 3 months in advance because of the rarity of the local hotel offer, and their restaurant from the edge of the lake where the service sucks so I left after about 20 minutes, nobody having deigned to take my order) to choose one of the other local restaurants. The Burmese border is 500 meters. Possible cool trekking. And above all: taste the different tees grown on-site.

  • We wandered through charming rural countryside to arrive in this surprising mountain village, with a ditinct Chinese flavor. Settled by nationalist Chinese fleeing Mao Tse Tung's China. We decided to ...  more »

  • Definitely worth a bike ride up here. View is great and food, although a bit pricey, is pretty damn good.
  • A nice place to walk around and buy some tea, but the food options (mostly yunnan food) are pretty medicore. What I loved most was speaking to a 2nd gen KMT descendant and hearing his opinions on politics and Chinese/thai identity. For this I give Ban Rak Thai 5 stars. A must visit when youre in Mae Hong Son!
  • This historical town was a true and welcomed surprise. It is unlike anywhere else in Thailand. It is clean, tidy and filled with its own unique charm. The KMT (China post WWII civil war) history is a compelling story with a happy ending.
  • We went out of our way from the Mae Hong Son loop to make it up to Ban Rak Thai. It was a very interesting "Chinese" village on the border of Thailand and Myanmar well worth the visit.
  • A lovely place. You not think that you are in Thailand anymore. It reminds me a bit to Austria when i see some building at the lake. A must see if you visiting Mae Hong Son province
