(4.4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is a Buddhist temple in Lamphun, Thailand. The temple's origins date from the 11th century but the central stupa is thought to originate in the 9th century.HistoryWat Phra That Hariphunchai's earliest origins were in 897 when the then king of Hariphunchai is said to have built a stupa (now the central stupa) to house a hair of the Buddha. The present compound, founded by Hariphunchai King Athitayarai, dates from 1044.The temple was first rebuilt in 1443 by King Tilokaraja of Lanna kingdom Chiang Mai. The temple's pyramid-shaped Chedi Suwanna was built in 1418. In the 1930s temple renovations were made by the northern Thai monk Khru Ba Sriwichai.ArchitectureThe restoration of 1443 enlarged and enhanced the central stupa, including the incorporation of repousse Buddha images on bronze sheets affixed to the stupa bell element (anda). These repousse Buddhas are indicative of the Lanna Early Classic period. The unusual pyramid-shaped Chedi Suwanna in the northwest of the compound is in the Dvaravati style of the Haripunchai period and believed to be modeled on similar stupas at nearby Wat Chama Thewi (Wat Kukut).Wat Phra That Hariphunchai's wihan houses a 15th-century Lanna Buddha. Near the wihan is a library of 19th-century origin. The library's staircase features naga images. Also near the wihan is a large bronze gong, purportedly the world's largest. The gong dates from 1860.

  • One of the most beautiful attraction in Lamphun. The golden pagoda is very beautiful. Many people come to respect pagoda here.
  • The Golden Chedi is overwhelming. The Chedi Chiang Mai's DOI suthep stupa here made model? You must take off your shoes even the outside of the building during the last. Many believers who were eager to give their prayers. Because the apartment was near Chang phuak. Sǎwngthǎew ride from champac bus terminal. Talat warorot market over about an hour. It was a 50 baht. This sǎwngthǎew are free and way off. Sǎwngthǎew back has small Chang phuak bus stop on the opposite side of the street in front of the Museum in the Northern Bangkok Bank, can I get in there. I think I can ride anywhere we sǎwngthǎew hop so. Body like cart out 20 minutes, with the purple lines on a white background, destination is written on the windshield. The last seems to be about 5 pm. Will go Dim and so be careful. Also, has corridors lined with souvenir shops and covered the entire bridge bridge across from the main entrance road on the River in the area. It is recommended that look very interesting structure that passes on both sides, such as bike lanes and so if you have time.
