Hong Islands, Krabi Province

4.4
Explore the secluded Hong Islands, part of the Phang Nga Bay Marine National Park. Featuring the characteristic sheer rock walls of the area, the main island is uninhabited, except for the birds, white-faced gibbons, and giant monitor lizards which can sometimes be spotted lounging on the white sand beach. The island's interior hides a lagoon, accessed via a dramatic cliff passage. Elsewhere, one island holds a sheltered cove home to many birds, and impressive sandbars peek out of the water at low tide. Watch for two decent snorkeling spots. To best see the islands, choose a kayak tour, which allows you to explore the mangroves that surround the islands, and visit the lagoon at low tide when the water changes color from a deep emerald green to a clear turquoise. Our Nong Thale sightseeing planning app makes visiting Hong Islands and other Nong Thale attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

We took a long boat tour to Hong Island. It's a beautiful location. A bit tricky with small children as there's sand flies along the waters edge and lots of toxic jelly fish. It was beautiful for the ...  more »

We went to Hong Islands after having gone to the Phi Phi by speedboat the previous day. I.e., having learned from our mistakes. Even if you have not you imagine the crowds of all the Islands, the environment is unique in all them and spectacular landscapes and water but experience changes if you find the island only for you or 45 ships anchored in a beach of 200 meters. In this case we decided to hire a longtail for 7 people and spend the day on the Islands Hong (really are two more other two islets). Our hotel was almost opposite and on the beach you were offers to make the private tour. As in everything there is to negotiate. We were the previous day that finding would get us closer to 8:00 and that would bear food (a few sandwiches) and water us. Thus overtook us to the organized tours that they invade everything. By 2,300 baht (separate rates that you charge on the island) availability for all day. It did not reach 9 €/ person. We enjoyed as it was not possible with the multitude of the phi phi. On the largest island we could enter the lagoon and were about one hour swim ourselves. When another boat we went. On the beach we were almost alone for quite a while and we decided to eat soon. There is a kind of picnic area, with tables under the shade and a snack bar where prepared meals. Seen that served we are pleased to bring our own food. We dared with a coffee with ice, which seemed harmless to the stomach. Swore us that the ice was bottled water. The second island has a small beach with its charm. Too bad having high tide. The islets are communicated when low tide but it wasn't our case. We decided to come back a little earlier than expected due to the increased arrival of boats. There are several options to come. Everything that is going on their own private boat is certainly preferable to avoid overcrowding. If by being very far away or prefer something more organized will take a speedboat, the cost would be around the 1,100 baht per person if he engages in one of the multiple agencies that are or double or more contract through the hotel or from Spain. PD. Thousand times we regret not having gone to the PhiPhi private speedboat (are far to go in longtail from our hotel). It cost nearly twice but came out very early and dodging the invasion of the rest of the boats.

Incredible place, we rented a longtail from Koh Yao Noi (waaaaay better than the noisy/busy tourist boats) and mooched around a few islands back in 2011. I remember entering Koh Hong down a tiny channel with trees hanging down and obscuring the view, then suddenly [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED REDAAAAACTED]!!! Incredible. Crystal clear water with tons of life, we made friends with a bunch of starfish and went on the lash with them. A good time was had by all.

The sea water was greenish. A young girl was enjoying herself diving into the lagoon waters from the boat. The sandy white beach was clean and the sea water was crystal clear. A pretty relaxing and peaceful place with good scenery. Visiting this island was part of the kayaking trip.

Hong islands can be reached within 20 to 30 minutes from Ao Nang by speedboat or 45 minutes by longtail. The islands are the most beautiful place in Krabi province. The main island, Koh Hong is uninhabited, except for the birds, gibbons , lizards or other small primates. The best accessed by Kayak is at low tide. Motor boats (either longtail or speedboats) will go around mid-tide. The entrance to the lagoon is through a fantastic cliff passage.
