Hong Islands, Krabi Province

(4.4/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Explore the secluded Hong Islands, part of the Phang Nga Bay Marine National Park. Featuring the characteristic sheer rock walls of the area, the main island is uninhabited, except for the birds, white-faced gibbons, and giant monitor lizards which can sometimes be spotted lounging on the white sand beach. The island's interior hides a lagoon, accessed via a dramatic cliff passage. Elsewhere, one island holds a sheltered cove home to many birds, and impressive sandbars peek out of the water at low tide. Watch for two decent snorkeling spots. To best see the islands, choose a kayak tour, which allows you to explore the mangroves that surround the islands, and visit the lagoon at low tide when the water changes color from a deep emerald green to a clear turquoise. • Beautiful beach with a lot of snorkelling options. We took a long tail boat from Krabi and the experience of sailing in the trasitional vessel was awesome. If you take a speedboat you can cut down on ...  more »
  • We have opted to take a long boat from Ao Nang Beach instead of a Tour organized to have more freedom and enjoy the time that we wanted on the island. We went to Ao Nang Beach to one of the kiosks that exist in the own ride and reserve excursion by 2500thb (4 people on a boat for us alone) and arriving to pay the tourist tax (300thb per person). In total the tour has gone by about 26€ / person. The next day we went about 9 o'clock to the same place and reach Hong peak about an hour later. The journey is very pleasant (in this type of boat you can enjoy more dl landscape) and you not tides! Closer to lagoon (an area closed with a rather striking blue water) begin to see many waste at sea and quite a few boats type our cleaning the sea. It's a shame to see it so that water had traces of oil and was quite dirty. Arriving in Hong are left with the guide that we'll come at 14 h and personally to my made me long. The beach itself is not very big and there are quite a few jellyfish. I know that they can not do anything but not one we saw on phi phi and to part the beaches are spectacular. We thought we were not going to find a lot of people (that we had read in different opion) but was full. It is true that the tours would and they came but nothing to do with the Tour of phi phi with thalassa. The beach is very nice and crystal clear water but overcrowding and the subject of the jellyfish makes that you can consider options best! It would never repeat, but if you have the possibility to stay in Krabi quite a few days and be able to do more than one island is a picturesque and different site. I almost forgot! The Buffet that are on the island to eat (is the only option) is not suitable for tourists because of the hygiene of the place. We have eaten at street locations that were much better! The tours bring their own food by what hardly anyone eats there. I recommend bringing food or go to a reasonable hour to return to Ao Nang to eat.

  • The sea water was greenish. A young girl was enjoying herself diving into the lagoon waters from the boat. The sandy white beach was clean and the sea water was crystal clear. A pretty relaxing and peaceful place with good scenery. Visiting this island was part of the kayaking trip.
  • Hong islands can be reached within 20 to 30 minutes from Ao Nang by speedboat or 45 minutes by longtail. The islands are the most beautiful place in Krabi province. The main island, Koh Hong is uninhabited, except for the birds, gibbons , lizards or other small primates. The best accessed by Kayak is at low tide. Motor boats (either longtail or speedboats) will go around mid-tide. The entrance to the lagoon is through a fantastic cliff passage.
  • The place is nice bcoz the rocks. It would be great if less tourists and more clear water !
  • Nice beach and scenery. Clear water with some fish for snorkeling
  • 300TBH national park entry for foreigners. It's a small beach but tranquil. Water is a jade colour but snorkelling visibility was very low when we went yesterday. Go early if possible as place is popular for Chinese tourist groups as they start flooding in around 11am. We took a private tour and explored the surround areas as there are secluded mini islands nearby.
