Where to stay in Taling Ngam

When planning a Ko Samui holiday, Taling Ngam appeals for its tranquil, calm environs in comparison to the rest of the island. This relatively remote locale offers a number of luxury 3- to 5-star beachfront hotels and resorts with amenities and trappings such as swimming pools, annexed restaurants, food, and beverages on-demand. Due to its secluded, exclusive nature, Taling Ngam appeals more to families than budget-conscious backpackers.

  • I found out about this place on Triposo guide, and judging by the reviews here people build a lot of expectation based on that or similar description. And that's inaccurate! The place is great, staff is friendly, food and drinks are worth to try. No, there's no free samples. Don't expect a tour, it's a distillery with a bar/restaurant. You should go there, I will certainly come back!
  • This wasn't much of a distillery but a nice restaurant with rum specialties. The distillery wasn't open when we went for the Sunday brunch and you only got the choice of the original rum in a shot or specialty drink. Neat restaurant and the host didn't really give us any information on the rum itself except to take our orders. The food however was good and there was a good brunch selection.
  • The place itself wasn't that magical. I asked the hostes if we could try the rum and she told me we could order shots which I find kind a weird. We just wanted to try the rum before buying it. Also we were expecting a range of flavors but sadly they only had the original. Anyways I bought 3 botles since I kinda enjoyed the taste.
  • We rented scooters and rode down from Chaweng in July to check out the distillery. We tasted the orange and the plain rum which you buy by the shot measure. The host explained how to taste it first, straight, and then with a spiced syrup added in. They have a pleasant outdoor sitting area and nice grounds. I believe they have food on the menu, but we didn't order any. You can also do a "distillery tour" which is a shed with windows where the equipment is (non-operational when we were visiting), and they have signs on the walls explaining step by step how the rum is made. It was only mildly interesting, but it's free, so that was good. Overall, it was a fun, exciting ride down (we're not well-practised riders), and I enjoyed tasting the rum. If you don't have time for the distillery tour (~5 mins if you stretch it out), you're not missing that much.
  • The distillery is very small and the tour takes no more than 5 minutes. The rum itself isn't very good.
