Stroll along the beach, browse the souvenir shops, and eat freshly caught seafood at Lanta Old Town, an ethnically diverse area with Chinese merchants, local Thai fishing families, and an ancient Sea Gypsy community. You can catch a long-tail boat tour of the island or a mangrove tour from the waterfront, or embark upon a snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, or kayaking trip. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as an important port and commercial center for the island, providing a safe stopping place for vessels sailing between Phuket, Penang, and Singapore.
