Royal Hua Hin Golf Club, Hua Hin

2.5
#4 of 7 in Golf in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province
With its claim to fame as the country's first golf course, Royal Hua Hin Golf Club still does not disappoint. This 18-hole course first opened in 1924 under the lead of Scottish railroad engineer O. A. Robins. The natural jungle setting affords spectacular views of the Thai countryside. The par 72 course features tree-lined fairways, onsite cafes and restaurants, plus extras like a driving range, chipping green, putting shop, pro shop, and electric carts. If you're lucky, you may spot some monkeys hanging from the trees. Fear not, knowledgeable caddies are available as needed. • The fairway was like that, there was grass, but it was dry and hard in many places. The bunkers were rock hard down a little sand, holes with sand on the Greens. Banlayoten was boring, not a single water hazards on 18 holes. Small stalls with drink sales a bit everywhere + a dealers and other ball. Took a golf cart, but there was no GPS, so you had to trust your caddie when she chose mallets. Shower area leaves some to be desired.

  • Originally built for King Rama V, Royal Hua Hin was one of the first golf clubs built in Thailand. It even had its own railway station to make it easy for the old king to visit. The course is in the B...  more »

  • Probably, one of the worst courses in Thailand. The greens are like some of the rural roads with plenty of patches. Surprising why TGA and All Thailand Golf Tour conduct tournaments here. Except for the old world charm, there is nothing here. If you money, spend it elsewhere.
  • Oldest club in Thailand, built for King Rama V. Old British style. Not in great shape during the rainy season but still playable.
  • Only used the driving range, but it was good. 20B per tray of balls. Pretty empty which was good. Reason for 4 stars, - 80B for small beers, - 50B for use of any club, swapping a club for a different club will still cost you another 50B.
  • Nice club in the center of town - 100 m from train station
  • Oldest course in HH. Fairways are a bit patch in places and you need to watch out for the dogs before you take your shot. One of the cheapest rounds of golf around. Probably worth it in comparison.

Where to stay in Hua Hin

Catering to the urban crowd from Bangkok and international visitors, Hua Hin offers a good selection of rooms to suit most budgets. Resort-style hotels and smaller boutiques generally remain closer to the sea, with some establishments offering direct access to the beach. Step back from the coast to see a drop in prices for simpler rooms in areas where guesthouses and hotels remain the norm. Explore the area around Phetkasem Road for more options with very competitively priced rooms.
