Sop Ruak - the center of the Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai
(2.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
View three countries from one spot at Sop Ruak - the center of the Golden Triangle, historically known for its opium production but now serving as a major Thailand tourist attraction. The vantage point affords superb views over Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand. Get a better sense of the significance of the area at the extensive opium museum (complete with a small plantation), which educates visitors on the production, effects, and eradication of the drug. Take a boat ride to the Laos-owned island of Don Sao, which does not require a visa, and browse the souvenir shops in the area. • If you are in Chiang Rai or its surroundings, don't miss the golden triangle. A point of view in height, from which one can observe the three countries at the same place. These are separated by 2 rivers whose water does not have the same color... it's pretty cool to see the waters mix.
