Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai
(4/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Sought out for its historical significance, Chiang Saen once served as the seat of a 7th-century kingdom. Today the modern town retains ruins scattered throughout, including the architecture of many Buddhist shrines, or chedi. Big cargo barges anchor in port here, keeping the Chinese import tradition of produce and electronics alive. The river is an attraction in itself, with many tourists visiting just to watch the boats come up and down. Stop by the local museum for further background on the town's fascinating past. • We were only here for a few hours and ate, and more during a trip and it was fine but can not say that I think that it was something special and a lot is about the border trade so you can shop much things/gadgets. Have you passing so specific, but otherwise, I'd probably not go there.
