Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai
(4/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Sought out for its historical significance, Chiang Saen once served as the seat of a 7th-century kingdom. Today the modern town retains ruins scattered throughout, including the architecture of many Buddhist shrines, or chedi. Big cargo barges anchor in port here, keeping the Chinese import tradition of produce and electronics alive. The river is an attraction in itself, with many tourists visiting just to watch the boats come up and down. Stop by the local museum for further background on the town's fascinating past. Add Chiang Saen to your Chiang Rai travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Chiang Rai family vacation planner.

  • The Chiang Saen we arrived by bus from Chiang Rai, when even this path with local has its charm. But due to frequent stops on long enough. Chiang Saen was just a place for us to travel to the golden triangle, because direct connection of the Chiang Rai there wasn't. From Chiang Saen will take you there any tuk tuk or taxi driver, which stands on the end a plethora of buses.
