Where to stay in Chiang Mai

While visiting Chiang Mai, keep in mind that the old town district and the area surrounding the famous night market offer both boutique (relatively expensive) and backpacker (relatively inexpensive) options. The riverside neighborhoods boast exclusive hotels and resorts, where comparatively pricey rooms come with good views and extensive facilities.

  • Fantastic range of foods, very clean and incredibly cheap. Big range of clothing too, this is a seriously good market. There is a huge area with restaurants only, great variety as expected and so cheap. No Aircon with the meal tho, but the sweat is worth it.
  • This is my favorite market in Chiang Mai. Two buildings - one with fresh vegetables, fruits, a wet market, and countless varieties of prepared foods & snacks. The other building has 15-20 stall-style restaurants. We shop here 5x a week and love it!
  • Very clean undercover open market with beautifully presented fresh vegetables, fruit and meats. Also excellent for condiments, snack foods, cooked dishes and sweets. Next door is a Hawker area with lots of seating for diners.
  • One of my favourite markets in Chiang Mai. As local as it gets. There's a large produce area, meat area, and prepared foods area where you can find everything from juices to barbecued chicken, whole steamed fish, and sweets. It literally had everything that the night markets have and then some. Also across the street is a fantastic food court with nearly 50 restaurants. Plenty of good eats here. Go with a group
  • This market is enormous, it is very easy to get lost. Make sure to pay attention to the signs above a lot of the stores, it will tell you what section and row you are in, just in case you're trying to find someone. There are so many shops here, it's kind of overwhelming. The prices are great, but a lot of the shops are the same. You could spend hours here for sure, bring a little bit of money and you'll walk away with a ton of new things. Make sure to bring your haggling hat too, because you can always talk the merchants down a bit on everything.
