#6 of 10 in Nature in Chiang Mai
The lifeline of many villages in the area, Mae Ping River provides much-needed water and irrigation to support rice paddies, gardens, and wet-farming industries. The river is 658 km (409 mi) long and passes through many provinces. Taking a boat tour allows you to see a series of riverfront towns and historic cities. The scenery changes as you depart urban centers and pass by forests, fertile rice paddies, flower gardens, and coffee, tea, strawberry, and tobacco plantations.
