Huay Tung Tao Lake, Chiang Mai
(4.1/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Actually a man-made reservoir surrounded by forest, Huay Tung Tao Lake draws lots of visitors with swimming, sunning, and a laid-back atmosphere. Grab your bathing suit and make your way to the lake, where for a small fee you can kick back along the shore or make a splash. Claim a grass hut, complete with mats and a table, to enjoy the view across the lake from the comfort of the shade. Bring a picnic to stay energized, or grab some local fare at one of several restaurants dotting the shoreline. Keep in mind, however, that many of the establishments in the area charge higher prices on their English-language menus. • At Huay Tung Tao they have several restaurants around a man made lake (I believe the Thai Army owns the land) and it is fun to go on nice days for a long lunch a few beers and maybe a swim. Now let me...  more »
  • Huay Tung Tao reservoir is a large lake with surrounding food by dining tables are similar to the Sala filed out into the Lake. Most dishes are spicy type suited to eat and views simultaneously.

  • About 30 minutes by scooter in chiang mai, right of entry of 50 baht. We went there on Sunday. We choose at random the 2nd restaurant on the right after turning left there where you pay the entry fee. Shaded parking, you choose your little hut by the Lake. It's quiet and frequented by local young people who come as a couple or with friends/family, we have not seen other tourists, assured local immersion! The English menu is very varied and really affordable! Everything was delicious, among other ate fried frogs (and not the french are not the only ones to enjoy!) and the live shrimp spicy (am dancing), very typical and excellent food! Not ounliez not to order a pint of ice cream with your drinks. In short a great day!

  • Peaceful place, charging 50 baht per person for entrance, fair enough. Full of restaurants with bungalow seats around the river. A nice place to have an afternoon with tranquility
  • Great for day fun. Bit far from town. Bu can be reached easly thru motorbike and Google map. 50 batt entrance fee per person. Raft is 20 batt per person. You can swim in Lake. Food is great, fresh and cheap. Bring swiming gear as well as tan and sun block. Have fun
  • Great place to eat with good views. The price has just gone up for farangs so they pay more than locals.
  • Great place to relax and enjoy the food. The kids loved the experience. We rented a couple of tubes and it was fun for all.
  • Pick a bamboo hut and have lunch on the lake! You can get a cheap massage or change into your bathing suit and jump in the water!
