The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic Church and is located in the city of Chanthaburi, in the province of the same name, in Thailand.DescriptionThe cathedral, visible from most of the city, was formally inaugurated in 1909 as one of the largest Catholic churches in Thailand. It was built on a previous structure of more than 300 years. It was constructed in Gothic style during the 10 years of occupation by France on this territory although it remained unfinished at that time (1893–1904). There is a statue of the Virgin Mary in front of the Cathedral. The centre piece of the inside of the cathedral is the statue of the Virgin Mary. It is covered by semi precious gems donated by the local congregation – estimates of the number of gems range from 200,000 to 500,000.It serves as the Roman or Latin rite seat of the Diocese of Chanthaburi (Dioecesis Chanthaburiensis, สังฆมณฑล จันทบุรี) which was created in 1965 with the Bull "Qui in fastigio" of Pope Paul VI. It is under the pastoral responsibility of the Bishop Silvio Siripong Charatsri.

  • This is one of the most beautiful cathedral in Thailand. The cathedral built hundred years ago by Christian Vietnamese migration in Chantaburee province. It worth for you to pay a visit here.
  • Wow worthy place to visit. This awesome Catholic Cathedral is located right in Chanthaburi town. If you are into architecture, you can't miss this place. Its Gothic-style altar is as famous as its beautiful ceiling. The cathedral is said to have been built over hundred years ago but the Catholic community there existed for over 300 years. Highlight of the place is the Virgin Mary's statue stunningly decorated with precious gemstones.
  • Wonderful catholic church originally built by Vietnamese immigrants. Definitely worth a visit even if you're not christian. A renovation made about 8 years ago restored the church to its full glory.
  • First time i visit Chanthaburi and found this church. Very fascinating and impressive place of worship. Very good stained glass and very good for praying also. When you go to Chanthaburi you must visit this church, one of icons of Chanthaburi.
  • It's a pretty cathedral and a good place to quietly rest from the outside heat, although not air conditioned. Ladies must cover their legs or wear the skirt-like hip wrap offered at the entrences. The gates to enter the cathedral (building) are closed during mass. It was a peaceful visit. After praying up an appetite I recommend crossing the bridge in front of the cathedral to Sukhaphiban road. There you will find coffee shops, restaurants, snack vendors, and a few interesting little museums - really good and unique eating. I especially enjoyed the Thai Tea Popsicle and the old, family run Madeleines bakery (you may have to order in advance).
