Religious Site Tourist Spot
Head up the hillside and stand beneath Phuket Big Buddha, a 45 m (148 ft) statue watching over the surrounding landscape and settlements. Begun only a decade ago as a donation-funded project, the giant structure has come to encapsulate a sense of the spiritual and social character of Phuket. Offering extensive views of the surrounding area--and a peaceful break from the urban bustle--the statue's grounds serve as a popular meeting spot, a revered place of worship, and the endpoint of many hikes. Using our international travel planner, Phuket Town attractions like Phuket Big Buddha can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We went there for a day trip. I have to confess that it is a rare experience to witness. As you climb up the stairs to the statue you automatically feel humbled and to participate in a Buddhist ceremony led by a Buddhist monk is just breath taking. You can "buy" donate marble plates, on which you can write something and by doing so you contribute to finishing the temple as it is build completely through donations. Worth a visit or two or three. And just by the way: the view from up there..... wow
  • My wife and I got a taxi to Big Buddha. We only stayed for half an hour but maybe should have stayed for an hour or more. It really is big and while you can see it on top of the mountain from the surrounding areas it was a surprise how big it really is up close. I would recommend going to see it. Underneath the Buddha is not complete (may 2017) but I did not find that a problem.
  • The big Buddha statue is completed but there is still work going on around it. Can't wait to see when all construction work is over. But still you would be amazed when you visit big Buddha. I love that place.
  • We took a day out in a taxi from Phuket town and did a variety of things which included the Big Buddha. The structure is very nice and the whole area will look very nice once it is complete, but that is reliant on donations from the public that visit. Great views from the hill. Lots of souvenirs on sale. Not too many steps to walk up. Visited April 2015.
  • Great view even with rainy weather. The place seems to be maintained on a donation basis. They are actively collecting donations to complete their renovations as well.
