Head up the hillside and stand beneath Phuket Big Buddha, a 45 m (148 ft) statue watching over the surrounding landscape and settlements. Begun only a decade ago as a donation-funded project, the giant structure has come to encapsulate a sense of the spiritual and social character of Phuket. Offering extensive views of the surrounding area--and a peaceful break from the urban bustle--the statue's grounds serve as a popular meeting spot, a revered place of worship, and the endpoint of many hikes. • My wife and I got a taxi to Big Buddha. We only stayed for half an hour but maybe should have stayed for an hour or more. It really is big and while you can see it on top of the mountain from the surrounding areas it was a surprise how big it really is up close. I would recommend going to see it. Underneath the Buddha is not complete (may 2017) but I did not find that a problem.
  • The big Buddha statue is completed but there is still work going on around it. Can't wait to see when all construction work is over. But still you would be amazed when you visit big Buddha. I love that place.
  • We took a day out in a taxi from Phuket town and did a variety of things which included the Big Buddha. The structure is very nice and the whole area will look very nice once it is complete, but that is reliant on donations from the public that visit. Great views from the hill. Lots of souvenirs on sale. Not too many steps to walk up. Visited April 2015.
  • We have been visiting Big Buddha for the last sixteen years. Building progress is slow but the view of the island from the high position never fails to impress. If you are visiting Phuket Big Buddha is a must visit.
  • While not quite as well developed as the Christo Redentor.... The place comes with a great view but the Big Buddha complex was still on the works when we came. This place is potentially good but need some works. Practical Tips: 1. As with any other temple and religious place, dress appropriately. But if you are a woman and wearing some non-appropriate shorts or TOP, for a small donation (20-40 baht) you can borrow sarong to cover yourself and get in. 2.There are monkeys!! While they're cute don't try to touch or feed them. They're still wild beasts. They WILL bite and steal your loose stuff (hats, shades etc) 3. The stairs are not hard at all and it is worthy 'going up there'. So go up!
