Head up the hillside and stand beneath Phuket Big Buddha, a 45 m (148 ft) statue watching over the surrounding landscape and settlements. Begun only a decade ago as a donation-funded project, the giant structure has come to encapsulate a sense of the spiritual and social character of Phuket. Offering extensive views of the surrounding area--and a peaceful break from the urban bustle--the statue's grounds serve as a popular meeting spot, a revered place of worship, and the endpoint of many hikes. Using our international travel planner, Phuket Town attractions like Phuket Big Buddha can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Nice place.. It gotta takes some times to be fully renovated.. It's easy accessible n had a great scenary..
  • Great spot for daily prayers, whats even better is that you can run up this mountain on a few trains or the main drive to get to it for a challenge. Ran to here from Soi Ta-ied man times. Beautiful people and spirits here!
  • One of the biggest Buddha statues in the world. Located on one of the highest easily accessible hills in Phuket. It offers several amazing panoramic viewpoints overlooking both the east and west coast of Phuket. And then of course the huge hollow Buddha statue where monks are often chanting prayers inside. Since it's basically a crowd-funded project, the construction of the infrastructure is still ongoing at this moment, and everyone can contribute by buying anything from there or donating. The entry is free. There are usually quite many people there, but it's never badly overcrowded. The road leading up the hill is quite steep, so if you go there with a small motorbike with two (heavier) people on the bike, it could make sense to use their car shuttle to drive you up, as the bike might not have enough power at some of the steeper places. Don't miss the big toilet behind the parking lot! It looks very unique, has a great view (which is rare for a toilet), and you can sometimes see monkeys playing in the underlying jungle from there. On your way down there is actually another great viewpoint on your left hand where you can see Karon beach. Great spot for photos.
  • Big Buddha is a spot I would take any of my friends. You kind of have to! Come here for some serenity, to meditate, or check out the views and support the local community. You won't be disappointed. There is a small vista on the way up which showcases great sunsets!
  • The Big Buddah is very impressive for its scale, sitting on top of its hill, but it is still very much a construction site in progress. If you peer around the construction vehicles and exposed reinforcing bars, the views of the Kantaray peninsular are wonderful. For those who forget to dress demurely, sarongs and scarves are available free of charge to cover shoulders and knees. This place should be a 5-Star attraction when it is finished.
  • Great views over Phuket. I drove up in a normal car absolutely fine - no need to take a 4x4 as others have suggested. There is a lot of building work going on in the background but it was not noisy and did not disrupt our visit.
