Ruin Religious Site
Phanom Rung Historical Park (Prasat Hin Phanom Rung), a Khmer temple complex built in the 10th century, contains largely intact ruins built on the rim of an extinct volcano. When you go, first walk the long processional walkway leading to the main temple, but also look for a pavilion on the right of the walkway where the king once prepared for ceremonies. Once inside the pink sandstone sanctuary, you can admire carvings of Hindu gods and scene depictions from Ramayana. Explore the two libraries as well, where sacred Hindu texts are housed. • Get here early to see the sunrise. It's quite spectacular. If you go during the rainy season, it's relatively easy to avoid tourists if you arrive before 10AM... Dry season is probably another story.
  • A must to see! Historical castle is very well maintained and very beautiful to explore. There are quite some stairs, be careful if you go with elderly.
  • Great place to visit while in Thailand. Very well kept up and a great place to experience what it was like many years ago.
  • Superb temple. Quiet and beautiful scenery
  • Beautiful ancient ruins.. a bit of a climb but definitely worth it. Don't forget to rake your camera and a bottle of water with you. They charge 20 baht entry fees for locals and 150 baht for foreigners.
