Phanom Rung Historical Park (Prasat Hin Phanom Rung), Chaloem Phra Kiat

#1 of 13 in Things to do in Buriram Province
Phanom Rung Historical Park (Prasat Hin Phanom Rung), a Khmer temple complex built in the 10th century, contains largely intact ruins built on the rim of an extinct volcano. When you go, first walk the long processional walkway leading to the main temple, but also look for a pavilion on the right of the walkway where the king once prepared for ceremonies. Once inside the pink sandstone sanctuary, you can admire carvings of Hindu gods and scene depictions from Ramayana. Explore the two libraries as well, where sacred Hindu texts are housed. • We rode the motor bike out to here early morning and was well worth the trip. The temple is like the Khemer temple and as always plenty of steps to climb  more »
  • A very worthwhile temple complex from the Khmer period. Have access to the ruins is very impressively balanced. There is a well preserved or restored complex with some nice details on the plateau. Who is in the area you can find some good photo opportunities.

  • Beautiful old temple. A bit of a drive from Surin or Buriram but well worth a day trip.
  • prasat phanom rung was built during the reign of the khmer king jajavarman. at the time built these ancient temple sites being built as hindu temple later on changed to a buddhist temple site. praset phanom rung appears in the flag of the province of buriram - the people here are very proud of their history. please behave respectful when visiting this beautiful ancient temple site and cover your shoulders and knees. i recommend to go their early morning hours to avoid crowds. entrance fee: 100 baht.
  • Get here early to see the sunrise. It's quite spectacular. If you go during the rainy season, it's relatively easy to avoid tourists if you arrive before 10AM... Dry season is probably another story.
  • Lovely and peacefull historical park. Well worth a visit.
  • A must to see! Historical castle is very well maintained and very beautiful to explore. There are quite some stairs, be careful if you go with elderly.
