Big Buddha, Bophut

Religious Site Tourist Spot
Pay a visit to a popular and iconic place of worship at Big Buddha. The temple grounds include a gigantic 12 m (39 ft) Buddha statue, visible from several kilometers away, that has become a landmark of the area's skyline and cultural heritage since the temple's founding in 1972. The Buddha sits in the Mara pose, with an upturned left palm in his lap and his right hand resting on his right knee; the Buddha symbolizes calm resolve, having overcoming temptations sent to him by the lord of illusion. Climb the temple steps to stand at the Buddha's feet and admire extensive views of the surrounding coastline. • Nice temple with a great view of the ocean as well. Can tour the whole complex in about 10 minutes but it is well worth the visit. Keep the dress code in mind for temples, luckily the do provide some covering for free if you forgot.
  • quiet and peaceful the day i went. Surrounded by many cute little shops. Great for photography.
  • Great attraction. On site parking for free and many little shops just outside the Buddha grounds.
  • Good for a quick stop over after landing at the airport. convenient location.
  • Great spot to visit. Big Buddha is massive, with plenty of smaller statues around. Sometimes a dress code is enforced, but there are items available for free to cover you up
