Pay a visit to a popular and iconic place of worship at Big Buddha. The temple grounds include a gigantic 12 m (39 ft) Buddha statue, visible from several kilometers away, that has become a landmark of the area's skyline and cultural heritage since the temple's founding in 1972. The Buddha sits in the Mara pose, with an upturned left palm in his lap and his right hand resting on his right knee; the Buddha symbolizes calm resolve, having overcoming temptations sent to him by the lord of illusion. Climb the temple steps to stand at the Buddha's feet and admire extensive views of the surrounding coastline. To visit Big Buddha and other attractions in Bophut, use our Bophut trip planner .

  • The big Buddha is a must see in Ko Samui. Ring the bell and pray for who you love. There is also a beautiful view from the top.  more »
  • Big Buddha Koh Samui big Buddha Beach, you may have heard that the room is a small village near the rock, called. Big Buddha is a 10-minute walk from Chaweng and Bo phut is located some 7 km form. It encompasses the entire island is located on the main road, it is very easy to find. Big Buddha is a giant Buddha in Thailand to pay their respect comes across an image with the Samui is one of the more prominent and symbolic. When you approach the Buddha's golden road 4171 coat shining in the Sun, you can see that it is truly breathtaking. You access will give you leads all the way to the top of the big Buddha, you can see a large staircase, here the area is very wonderful views of Koh Phangan. This beautifully coloured like the mural on the stairs two giant sea snakes guarding a lot. However, there are several places of worship all Thailand temples and monks and very helpful, very knowledgeable and friendly, does not. Buddhist monks are usually busy with my blessing and prayer Bell ringing, they also use a lot of holy water for their blessings and to spread the word of Buddha to foreigners is always happy.

  • This was a very impressive temple and is definitely worth seeing while you are on the island. It is free to visit and there is the opportunity to donate towards maintaining the temple. The majority of the island tours will visit this location but you could also rent a scooter and make your own way here. There is also a local market nearby where you can get food, clothes or souvenirs. Women will need to cover their shoulders when visiting as with the majority of temples but shoal is provided free of charge if required.
  • Like the unique Buddha, where you do not have to climb a mountain of thousands of steps :D very nice atmosphere, one monk gave as a blessings. Definitely worth to visit.
  • An iconic landmark on the island, it is a must-see for anyone doing a tour of the island. If you feel adventurous you can rent a scooter and drive there. I had a bit of trouble finding the place with my bad sense of direction but luckily the locals were incredibly friendly and helpful. It is worth the journey and really will be a peaceful, serene visit.
  • Amazing views, the staff are very kind and helpful. They provided us with free gowns to cover our shoulders. Lots of shake stalls around. There was a monk that blessed you for free but donations are welcomed.
  • The temple itself is very nice, but there is so much tourists who throw their trash down on the sides. It is very touristic. Scooter parking is free and it is easy to access.
