Pay a visit to a popular and iconic place of worship at Big Buddha. The temple grounds include a gigantic 12 m (39 ft) Buddha statue, visible from several kilometers away, that has become a landmark of the area's skyline and cultural heritage since the temple's founding in 1972. The Buddha sits in the Mara pose, with an upturned left palm in his lap and his right hand resting on his right knee; the Buddha symbolizes calm resolve, having overcoming temptations sent to him by the lord of illusion. Climb the temple steps to stand at the Buddha's feet and admire extensive views of the surrounding coastline. • A nice attraction here. Walk to the top and play the 15 or so bells surrounding the walk area with great ocean views. Plenty of shops on ground level to check out.
  • Very pleasant attraction to see and definitely worth the visit, not only for tourists but for Buddhists too. Motorbike parking here is free and there are a variety of shops and snack stops here.
