  • The cooking class I attended is the morning cooking class. You find yourself at exit 4 of the BTS Bangwa stop at 09:00. Mimi greets you with a smile and takes you shopping in a market not far away where there are only locals. Each food explains the history and characteristics and above all why it will end up on your plate. Afterwards, you move to the home of Mimi's family, an enchanted place in front of the river and surrounded by greenery, away from the noise and traffic typical of Bangkok. It immediately reminded me of Titian Terzani's Turtle House. Here the real cooking class takes place with Mimi and her mom, a nice Thai lady who speaks little but smiles a lot. In Mimi's cooking class there is no room for more than 4 people. It's a choice he made to allow each of the participants to ask questions during the lesson and have the right space to really understand the recipes. Usually in the three and a half hours of the cooking class (from 9:00 to 12:30) three dishes and a dessert are prepared, all with the ingredients purchased just before at the market. I made Tom Yam, a Pad Thai and a Panang Curry. We also made coconut milk by hand. The cooking class is not designed specifically for vegetarians or vegans, but since the food is prepared on the spot it can easily become, just ask Mimi (who is super available and prepared). It is an experience that I really recommend to anyone who visits Thailand, because traveling through the flavors of a people and a nation means discovering a piece of the world. And doing it with a local person is the best way!

  • This was a truly wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations by far. Mimi is a passionate and highly skilled cook, and her class is lively and offers real insight on authentic Thai cuisine from scratch. She went out of her way to make sure we had the best possible experience. She even came to pick us up directly at the BTS train station which was a huge plus. She is fluent in English and sent us the recipes after the class to make sure we would be able to reproduce them at home. It was a great hands-on learning experience as we made several delicious dishes and curry pastes using raw ingredients, some of which we had never even heard of, and she provided us with very interesting details about the origins and uses and was keen to answer all of our questions! I cannot recommend Mimi and her school enough, it is a rare and affordable window into authentic Thai culture. If you are searching for a unique experience that stands out among the plethora of cooking class available, this is the one for you!! :)
