Where to stay in Bangkok

As a commercial, cultural, and tourist center, Bangkok offers a great diversity of accommodations. For long established and chain hotels, try Sukhumvit Road and the areas surrounding the central Siam Square, where budget and luxury rooms are available in abundance. If you are looking for the backpacker zone, head to Khaosan Road, where you'll find a wealth of inexpensive, simple accommodations surrounded by businesses tailored to traveler's needs. Consider staying at a guesthouse to gain a deeper understanding of Thai life.

  • This shrine used to be quite amazing with many many phallic statues of varying sizes and materials. But most of them seem to have disappeared, probably as tourist souvenirs! Note just a shadow of what it used to be. But maybe it's days are numbered in any case!
  • Smaller than I expected. It is a hidden shrine on the back of the Swissotel (from where you have to enter). It is worth visiting if you are nearby and tired of the malls. Very different from the usual shrines scattered around the city. In the Lonely Planet guide I saw it named as Linguam Shrine. Not many people around are aware of the existence of this place.
  • Extremely hard to find. You should ask somebody for the directions
  • Very difficult to find, and the area is too small to my expectations, it seems will be disappeared soon.
  • A religious place with positive vibrations amidst the busy Bangkok streets.
