Lumpini Park, Bangkok

4.3
#1 of 990 in Parks in Thailand
Take a break from the concrete and glass hubbub of contemporary Bangkok at Lumpini Park, an open public space offering much-welcomed urban relief for residents and tourists. Trees, grass, and views unimpeded by nearby buildings are something of a rarity in the city center, contributing to this green space's immense popularity. Take a boat out onto the man-made lake or enjoy a bike ride along its many cycling and walking paths. With a library, playgrounds, and over 30 species of birds making their home here, the park has plenty to offer visitors of all ages. • After visiting Bangkok far and wide near the end of our trip we do a tour in Lumpini Park. At last some relaxation and fresh air. A nice pond in the Center, with nice boat in the shape of a Swan, various exercise equipment in the sports area, bike paths and jogging trails, restaurants and bars, fountains and a little square with benches, greenery cared that perhaps not even in Italy. I think it's the only green lung of Bangkok maybe it would take others though this isn't bad. Five stars for encouragement.

  • Cliched as 'Central Park' of Bangkok but this apt description of Lumpini Park. As soon as you enter the park and walk about 50 metres from the gates (Silom End), the chaos and noise of Bangkok disappe...  more »
  • The park is very nice located. Here are a lot of green spaces and a lake. You can rent a pedalo here. I enjoyed my stay very much sitting on a bank in the shadow of a tree watching people passing and ...  more »

  • This is one of my favourite places in Bangkok. It's such a wonderful asset. A tranquil green space in the heart of the city where you can walk around and people watch, as well as listen to birds and see monitor lizards, turtles and large fish. All for free. Recommended
  • A wonderful escape from the concrete jungle. You can rent boats to paddle/row around the lake. I love how so many people go walking/running or do open-air aerobics there. You can see a nice sunset from the lake - good contrast between some nature, tall buildings and the beautiful sunset colours
  • Great place for a rest or for spending time with the kids. You can take a paddle boat shaped as a swan for as little as 40 Bhat per 30 minutes, you can walk through the park and enjoy the big monitor lizards, and other water animals and birds. You could also jog or rest to read a book at the relaxing park. Most recommended as a morning activity.
  • Nice pleasant place to get away from the throngs of crowds. Well manicured, and relatively clean. Has a nice playground for children. Its a normal city park. Nothing exceptional. But worth walking through it for some peace and quiet.
  • I had really relaxing time here. As you can see on the map, it's a big park. Even it's free, they are managing this park really well. You can see some animals who got used to be taken pics. Highly recommended if you wanna have some relaxing time in bangkok.

Where to stay in Bangkok

As a commercial, cultural, and tourist center, Bangkok offers a great diversity of accommodations. For long established and chain hotels, try Sukhumvit Road and the areas surrounding the central Siam Square, where budget and luxury rooms are available in abundance. If you are looking for the backpacker zone, head to Khaosan Road, where you'll find a wealth of inexpensive, simple accommodations surrounded by businesses tailored to traveler's needs. Consider staying at a guesthouse to gain a deeper understanding of Thai life.
