Lumpini Park, Bangkok

4.3
#2 of 30 in Parks in Bangkok
Nature / Park
Take a break from the concrete and glass hubbub of contemporary Bangkok at Lumpini Park, an open public space offering much-welcomed urban relief for residents and tourists. Trees, grass, and views unimpeded by nearby buildings are something of a rarity in the city center, contributing to this green space's immense popularity. Take a boat out onto the man-made lake or enjoy a bike ride along its many cycling and walking paths. With a library, playgrounds, and over 30 species of birds making their home here, the park has plenty to offer visitors of all ages. Make Lumpini Park a centerpiece of your Bangkok vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Bangkok itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Bangkok

As a commercial, cultural, and tourist center, Bangkok offers a great diversity of accommodations. For long established and chain hotels, try Sukhumvit Road and the areas surrounding the central Siam Square, where budget and luxury rooms are available in abundance. If you are looking for the backpacker zone, head to Khaosan Road, where you'll find a wealth of inexpensive, simple accommodations surrounded by businesses tailored to traveler's needs. Consider staying at a guesthouse to gain a deeper understanding of Thai life.

  • Nice outdoor space, big trees, monitor lizard, catfish, crows, cats, dogs, swan boats, aerobics, Lumpini has it all. Very relaxing walk. Toilets near the car park and school. Stalls outside the park wall sell local food and cold drinks, and food to give the fish, but inside the park no stalls.
  • Have been here couple of times. It's a huge park, but very hot and humid even with all the trees. You literally do not get any breeze here at all. Very limited seating options (too few benches) and the benches/seats provide are not comfortable at all. You don't want to sit on the grass as the grass is not good and you are more likely to spoil your clothes with dirt (or with bird/animal poop) if you sit on the grass. Good for doing light exercise such as jogging, bicycling, and taking kids to park. But beware of monitor lizards when you are jogging or cycling as they may cross the road at any moment. Don't worry they don't bite, and are harmless, but there are so many of them in the park. Good for picnic. But very humid and hot. You can rent a paddle boat and enjoy the pond/lake. There are some outdoor gym facility free of charge. Feeding the birds is not allowed although we didn't come across a sign saying not to feed the fish..
  • Great place to go walk around and feel like you're not really in the middle of the city. Nice to take pedal boats. Good playgrounds for the kids - some have been recently renovated.
  • Nice park in the middle of Bangkok. Good for jogging, exercising or just relaxing. Around 6pm a big crowd is doing gymnastics. Also a lake for paddle boats. There is also a nice food court at one end of the park near a parking place.
  • It will depend on you if you like this park. 90% of people here are jogging. There are no street food here, and people jog until late evening with some group cardio dance or exercises going too. There's some 7-11 or other stores outside. It's not particularly upscale but there's also a weight machines and gym which looks free to use.
